N7 Helmet from Mass Effect build WIP
Here is a teaser of my new build, that has been going on for a year now. I'm really starting to get back into it now. I have finished the Lego pieces and I am about to get them into molds. I just got a lathe and used it to make the base for this sub-assembly. If anyone can guess what it is I'll give you a pull when it's done. (you might have to pay for shipping) I have to get better at taking pics along the way.

well this is infuriating. I know i recognize it, but I can't place it.
The best I can do is the Deflector dish on the Enterprise (not the Ent D from TNG). Not sure though, I can't find good reference pics of that to confirm. I recognize it though. But hey, it looks really nice. Very clean lines! Good job. |

 So I started out with Skips Pepekura Costumes N7 helmet, which unfortunately is not that accurate. It was the only one at the time, but looking at the newer ones at the 405th they're missing some elements as well, but they are better than nothing as a base.  I decided to try oil clay for the first time and bulk out the forms. I determined I hate oil clay and gave up trying to finish the surface in clay.  I made a plaster gauze mold and soaked it in hot water to soften the clay to get the sculpt out. I then made a hollow blank with "Rondo" (I just found out this term for Bondo with added polyester resin to make it pourable.)  Here we are with a couple of weeks of sporadically carving and sanding. I made the earpiece separately to be able to detail it right and I'll have to cut out a hole in the main piece to add a couple of cast pieces.   As for your other guesses, I think I have a couple of ideas for new projects after this one is done now. Tommy |
