Awesome, so it still has some flex to it then? I think I might have been using a foam that's slightly too flimsy, made my helmet out of a camping mat. It is a good fit. The face plate is seperate as I want to put hinges on, but the biggest problem I have at the moment is that when the helmet is on my head, the faceplate no longer aligns with it. Have you had this problem?

This suit is AMAZING! I've just started building my first one and (though I know it won't be as good as yours) I aim to achieve the standard/ look of yours. It's fantastic. Should be proud with your work mate.

Mine is also camping mat it still flexes a little but the pva and paint does firm it up a bit, i had to increase my helmet by 10% as it did fit but was tight and was more like a mask fit rather than a helmet, The face plate doesnt come off mine but i think if i was to do one i would maybe seal it and paint it first the cut the face plate off after as it would hold in shape better while it firms up with the pva etc so it would fit back better

Awesome job so far. The paint is awesome, I think the weathering was a good idea. I also like that you fixed the sad eyes - looks better now!

looks awesome!! i also started with camping mats, but i didnt like the "painted foam" look once I painted it so i am remaking everything with smoother crafting foam. Question: on the helmet, how did you get the bolts? did you just indent the foam with something? and what did you use to accent the lines between pieces? just black paint? what is your weathering technique?

HI mate thanks for the comments, Yeah i made the impressions in the foam with a pen top i pushed it in hard into the foam and twisted it and it cut a small circle then pushed a flat screwdriver in to make the slot, I cut the lines with a dremel before painting and once painted i just use a dark charcoal and i silver emulsion paint what you use on your walls at home, I paint the grey in all the lines and deep bits and ledges when dirt would build up and wipe off the excess with a damp cloth, I then dry brush the hi bits with the silver just here and there the beauty of using emulsion is if you make a mistake or you dont like it you can rub it off with a wet cloth, Once im happy with it i seal it all with back to black clear silicone bumper shine used on a car this gives it all a little shine and stops the pieces from sticking together.

This is turning out really great! I think that weathering is whats bringing it all together.

    Demolition

First up, awesome work! I'm amazed!

I love foam builds, I made myself Thor's armour from scratch!

One thing I suck at is weathering the paint. Can you point my in the right direction in terms of what to use so I can have a practice?! All my attempts so far failed miserably!

Once again, keep up the awesome work!

Hi mate the weathering is really easy first i use auto paint for the main color i.e the red but for the weathering i use household emulsion paint like you would paint the inside of your house with i use a dark charcoal grey and a silver, ok first have a cloth at the ready use a brush and paint the dark grey into all the hollows and nooks and crannys all the steps and low bit just do small sections at a time try not to do to much at once, Now with the damp wet gently rub off the paint where you dont want it just leaving it in the low bits the beauty of it is if you take off to much just add more and rub off again until your happy with it, Make sure you keep cleaning the cloth with clean water or the paint just builds up and rubs around the piece your doing,Once dry take the silver paint an old piece of card and i use a one inch brush put a little paint just on the tip of the brush and brush it nearly dry on the card, Now flick it over the armor piece just catching the high bits and edges again if you do to much use damp cloth to remove and start again until your happy, finally to give is a shine i use a clear silicone spay the type used on car interiors and bumpers it seals all the paint and gives it a final shine.

    hope this helps

Hi guys just a quick update after just have a half suit up i found it very hot and the helmet lenses steamed up really fast and vision wasn't that good, So i plucked up some courage and with knife in hand hacked off the face plate eeeek!!, After some repair work and extra bit added here and there Ive got it just right there no way it will work with an opening mechanism so Ive gone with the Indiefilmgeek magnet route it helps hold its shape and is easy to remove and attach, Also attached the electrics to the magnets so the light come on when face plate is fitted and go off when removed, I also added magnets on the top so when the face plate is up its hold there Thanks again to Indiefilmgeek for this idea it works really well and it help me cool down and de-steam lol.

Anyway guys see what you think........

Oh bottom half is now all sealed and ready for paint so watch this space
