My HD War Machine suit (PIC-HEAVY) New Model done! a new construction starts!!!

Re: My HD War Machine suit (PIC-HEAVY)-shout out to Cereal Kill3r for awesome Tut!!

I just love your build man!!!

Thank you man! thanks for the files, I did spent a lot of time combining some of the pieces and switching some of the flats around to make them easier for me to glue...Feel free to give me some ideas or if you see something I should change... Unlike some others I do appreciate constructive criticism....

Re: My HD War Machine suit (PIC-HEAVY)-shout out to Cereal Kill3r for awesome Tut!!

So quick update; I have to work harder this week to finish as much as I can, I have two recruiters fighting for me and I have a ton of interviews this week and I hope next Monday is my first day at work on whichever is the best for me....

Re: My HD War Machine suit (PIC-HEAVY)-shout out to Cereal Kill3r for awesome Tut!!

So more updates, today I got to finally work on the chest/back, so the first thing I did was remove the Arc reactor that way is easier to work with later...

Then I wanted to do some strengthening on some of the edges also some of the inside so went I put some resin it would not warp...

And finally some hardening...so I following Cereal Kill3r's way...first the left half of the chest and the right side of the back, that way the piece do not warp so bad, plus I got to work better and cover the piece the right way, no rush plus having one side dried is easier to handle...

Your pic showed me the way! :lol
Glad you ended up with a bidding war for your services! I hope that they know what a great person they are getting!!!:thumbsup
Have a great night my friend!:cheers

Wait until you see the rondo work, Man!!! those are some sensitive chemicals one drop of hardeners too much and you end up with a steaming hot glass of rondo,if you can buy one of those food scales at target. Also found a bunch of goodies on my old tool box that I can use...

One another hand; if you use Bondo for your build, you can use this plastic mat where you can mix the bondo instead of a piece of carboard, here is a picture:

It cost $3.00 in walmart or autozone.

Since I couldn't find one I used a plastic cutting mat I found at Target $ 5.99 for 6 pcs. different sizes

Re: My HD War Machine suit (PIC-HEAVY)-shout out to Cereal Kill3r for awesome Tut!!

So I finish doing the first layer of rondo on the my war machine torso, wow the fumes of the chemicals are no joke, I was working near a window and my daughter opened it just or lit 2 seconds and the fumes when in the entire apartment, I divided the torso into back and chest, but messed up in a couple places, I don't know if I will just fix it or redo the torso again...know I will do another coat to make it harder, boy is hard as it is...

I only regret that I didn't buy the bondo with the fiber glass in it, it would have been so much better...anyways here is part of the work done, I will post more pictures tomorrow....

I think I will just finish the whole back and chest before I move to the next piece, I'm also thinking on maybe making a mold and use smooth cast 300 to make them light...don't know yet...

Re: My HD War Machine suit (PIC-HEAVY)-shout out to Cereal Kill3r for awesome Tut!!

Great progress...were is it that you messed up on? There's is bongo with fiber glass that has short strands n long strands but its xpensive....

Re: My HD War Machine suit (PIC-HEAVY)-shout out to Cereal Kill3r for awesome Tut!!

Good morning! Man have you been busy! Get ready, I haven't even had my coffee and ran to look to see if you posted!!! This is such a rush seeing your post!!! You better get your coffee on to read my post! :lol
I hope you dont mind that I have like a bazzillion questions!:cry
That looks like it came out so good! I dont see a mistake?
Is the problem the alignment after you cut it apart and did the rondo?
How much does it weigh? It looks pretty heavy even though i know you are only using a couple of oz at a time?
How is the flexibility? Is it still really flexible or did it get rigid? You said you wish that you had used the fibered Bondo. do you think a coat of fibered then a coat of regular would be best?:confused
Did you use Cerealkillers mixing ratios? You had said it went off quick and hot in a previous post with only slightly extra hardener?
I really like the way it looks! I was thinking fiberglass cloth and then the rhondo? I do imagine glassing the inside with all those conture would be a chore...but i quess that one is my "What would you do different question!?":lol
I am having a slow time building the chest /back because it is so flexible and I dont want to damage the seams and razor sharp edges. Do you think a PVC box shaped frame around the outside would be of use during the rondo? It would hold the shape and give you something to grip onto, it is so slippery! I have dropped the whole thing 3 or 4 times as it slid out of my hands and off the table! :$
So, lightning round! LOL!
Did you cut it apart pre-rhondo or after?
It looks awesome, I love the smoothness,, especially the flat chest plates!but I imagine pooling was a nightmare to fight! How did you combat that and did you have to rush like hell?
I was thinking that for the next coat, if you went really small batches and did the R side, waited did the left side ect that might help it stick to the sides?
Wow! Sorry! I wish I could have been there to watch! Never mind any building today LOL you will have to spend all your time answering these questions! :eek
Imagine how many questions I had when I was a kid!:behave
I am eagerly watching for more of your posts and hope like heck you dont have to do a new chest/back piece.

Re: My HD War Machine suit (PIC-HEAVY)-shout out to Cereal Kill3r for awesome Tut!!

Hahahahahha not a problem at all man, I'm actually rebuilding my back and chest because by me not thinking straight, here are the answers and some suggestions at the same time...Keep asking me because some of my mistakes would have been avoided if I had the same questions as you....if that makes any sense....

Good morning! Man have you been busy! Get ready, I haven't even had my coffee and ran to look to see if you posted!!! This is such a rush seeing your post!!! You better get your coffee on to read my post! :lol
Answer: 3 cups already and 4 Advil tension headache pills, wife said didn't need the coffee since advil has caffeine

I hope you dont mind that I have like a bazzillion questions!:cry
Keep them coming, others get bother, not me sometimes you need an extra set of eyes...

That looks like it came out so good! I dont see a mistake? Is the problem the alignment after you cut it apart and did the rondo?
Answer: Weeeeeell; first mistake putting rondo in the whole piece instead of separating them before I was trying to keep them together so they don't warp...
Solution: Just harden the outside, them build some reinforcement on them, the cut it and rondo the crap out of it!!

How much does it weigh? It looks pretty heavy even though i know you are only using a couple of oz at a time?
Answer: I think it weights around 6-7 lbs, the only problem is the flaps on the edges will bother a little..
Solution: Go lighter on the resin outside (I did it too thick and it crack easy, Also I the resin I used is not what I want, so I'm going to be using the fiberglass resin this time, then do 2 coats of light rondo this time I will ad some fiberglass in between, just on the point I think the torso would have more stress.

How is the flexibility? Is it still really flexible or did it get rigid? You said you wish that you had used the fibered Bondo. do you think a coat of fibered then a coat of regular would be best?:confused
Answer: Use the bondo with fiber glass in it, see I just figure out I don't need the fiber glass at all, I will save the bondo I have for the outside and go and get me some with fiberglass..and this stuff is hard as rock man, that's why I'm concerned on the warping..
Did you use Cerealkillers mixing ratios? You had said it went off quick and hot in a previous post with only slightly extra hardener?
Answer:I used his proportions but by eye'ing it, this time I'm using the scale 50/50 on the first coat and if necessary then 70/30, 30 being the resin...and it gets hot anyways is the whole chemical reaction, you get around 10-15 minutes of work so small batches is better

I really like the way it looks! I was thinking fiberglass cloth and then the rhondo? I do imagine glassing the inside with all those conture would be a chore...but i quess that one is my "What would you do different question!?":lol
Answer: If we use the bondo with fiberglass in it I believe we can skip the whole fiberglass stage.

Answer: I'm guilty of that too, that's a great idea, the other thing is to work in stages, also if we cut the two pieces I think the box would help to keep the from along with some support...(thanks for the idea).

So, lightning round! LOL!
Did you cut it apart pre-rhondo or after?
Answer: no, and that was my biggest mistake!!!
It looks awesome, I love the smoothness,, especially the flat chest plates!but I imagine pooling was a nightmare to fight! How did you combat that and did you have to rush like hell?
Answer: in the new one I'm reinforcing some of those with little wooden sticks, I will post the picture of what I'm using....

I was thinking that for the next coat, if you went really small batches and did the R side, waited did the left side ect that might help it stick to the sides?
Answer: I yet have to see how I'm going to tackle that, but with this question I think I may figure it out before hand...See those questions help me too...keep them coming, I'm taking notes...

Wow! Sorry! I wish I could have been there to watch! Never mind any building today LOL you will have to spend all your time answering these questions! :eek
Dude I was jut telling my wife, I told her it would be so helpful to have a helping hand there, so guess what she is doing now?! she printed the new torso and is helping me cut and she is learning the whole thing...She wants to make the new Iron Man MKVIII and painted her own way...some pink involved ayayayay!!!!
Imagine how many questions I had when I was a kid!:behave
Are we related, I ask questions like crazy, then again that's part of my profession, you need to be supper detail and ask a bazillion questions...

I am eagerly watching for more of your posts and hope like heck you dont have to do a new chest/back piece.

Tooo late!!!!:facepalm:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:angry:angry:angry

Re: My HD War Machine suit (PIC-HEAVY)-mega failure, back to the drawing board!!!

So as my update says mega failure, I made some huge mistakes here are my notes:

-I'm going to use the fiberglass resin instead of epoxamite, the epoxamite is too brittle for my taste.
-I'm Separating the chest and back after hardening the outside.
-I'm choosing another part on the torso where to separate them..
-I'm taking even more time to make it right.

As a reminder of my stupidity, I introduce, My FAILURE!!!!:behave:facepalm:cry:angry

Re: My HD War Machine suit (PIC-HEAVY)-mega failure, back to the drawing board!!!

Second try.......it was trying to post on my phone it timed me out..but anyway..sorry your having terrible with your project its apain to build these...I think its the bongo that makes it do that to much of it willeventually crack...with twisting n other ways..im printing mine now will start to build today..I think I might go with fiber glassing the inside..resin itself is a bit brittle but with mating or cloth is more flexible than bondo...I have experience working with bondo .fiber glass. Never put it on paper though bondo its ment for something more solid that's why it cracks of it put on too thick.

Re: My HD War Machine suit (PIC-HEAVY)-mega failure, back to the drawing board!!!

PN74, polyester resin and automotive body filler by themselves or mixed together as rondo are highly toxic and will destroy your lungs and can kill you. You need to use a respirator with filters for organic fumes 3M makes some it's not made for indoor use either. Outside / w/ a respirator is best brah. Keep up th' good work. :eek :eek :eek2 cents:cool:cool

Re: My HD War Machine suit (PIC-HEAVY)-mega failure, back to the drawing board!!!

Thanks or the concerns guys; I was using a respirator, and I was on my balcony since I'm in the second floor, the doors where closed but my daughter open the window and the smell got in ahhahahaaa, yeah I'm thinking on going fiber glass, I just didn't want to do all the work but I guess back to basis...I'm done with the chest and I putting the back together, record time, 3 1/2 hrs for the chest....
