More Progress : Helmet is getting filled and sanded!

Started om the chest plate - I really didn't know I'd have to mod the files this much!

Im learning that its dedication you need for this type of work!

You guys make it look easy!

The photo of the chest piece (on the beige carpet) is the sum of half a days work!

The arc reactor i got from ebay sweet!

    Thanks for reading!

I'm using the same pattern and I found that I had a lot of problems scaling the parts to fit. I'm fairly muscular in build and getting the forearm scaled up high enough at the elbow end to taper down to the wrist basically made it so I had a shoe box on my arm... your attempt looks a lot better.

Jun 10, 2012 - Shoulder - My First project: Warmachine Ironman Foam Costume #14

Hey all - Im off to France for a week so no more build for me

Just wanted to update you regarding 'seams' in my foam.

SO i did a really bad job of the war machine shoulder!

I looked around for lots of different ways to fill the gaps...

I went to my local £1 shop ($1) and picked up some filla and PVA glue

and it all went horribly wrong from their.. the glue was just flakey and cheap!

I happen to see xrobots.co.uk blog about a certain TYPE of PVA glue (5 Litres£10 from Wickes) and OMG! awesome

I can't tell you how good this looks in real life it flexible and too

    Please see pics below :_

Cant wait to Prime and Paint this Up!

    Cheers PPL!

Jun 16, 2012 - Re: Shoulder - Back from France: My First project: Warmachine Ironman Foam Costume #15

    Hey all !

Back from France and back on Warmachine!

Went to my Local paint shop today picked up some grey primer and Steel grey Metalic Spray paint!

I hit the shoulder with the paint and was REALLY happy at the outcome!

So i got straight to work on PVA glue coating the top armour (see pic)

Looking forward to filling and sanding it down after its first coat has dried out!

Thing is the shoulder does look a-bit 'lumpy bumpy' - BUT I've learned a lot about making the next one TEN TIMES better!

    Cheers all

still busy working on the chest plate & back - i came across these plasterboard screws in the garage!!

I made a small cut and chopped the bigger part of the wall plug away, pusher the remainder into the chest plate!! BOOM!

I've now placed a few more over the rest of the chest/backplate!

can't wait to spray this up!

    what do u guys think?..

    Looking good man.

One question, I'm working on a foam ironman myself and I'm not very pleased with the finish on the helmet. I'm in the uk too and have just purchased the PVA from Wickes as per your thread. How did the filler on foam work? Looks amazing in the photos, did you have any issues applying filler to the foam helmet? What brand of filler did you use?

    Keep up the good work.

    Looking good.
10mm seems to be the best thickness for war machine's body.
However might not look pretty on helmet.
    But you made it! Bravo.
I gave up and switch to 6mm.
Might want to consider mixing different thickness.
    Happy building.

this is all looking great! how are you planning on tackling the suit-mounted guns? i'm also working on a War Machine suit and i'm debating about attaching airsoft guns for the 2 arm-mounted guns and then i'm probably gonna build the shoulder mini-gun using some small pvc pipes, but if you have any better ideas for the shoulder mini-gun, i'd appreciate the advice

Im modifying a Nerf punisher gatling gun! It has rotating barrels and actually fires nerf bullets made of foam! It has a load "bang" with each shot it makes as well!
It is a triffle heavy so I am making an aluminum frame to go under the armor up the back to support the beast! It will have a single PVC pipe sticking up out of the back piece to mount the gun armature and gatling gun on.. I am using a friends soon to be released(hopefully) vaccuformed gun kit to go over the nerf so it looks very movie accurate! I didnt want stacks of foam to support a saggy gun so this will be pretty cool. I have outlined my plan on my WM thread and as soon as I am finished peping and resining (hopefully this weekend)http://www.therpf.com/f24/foam-war-m...-mount-152950/
maybe I can get some measurements and a prototype up for public consumption! LOL!
I wish I could get the Wickes PVA here. I am not sure of a suitable substitute here in the U.S. I am currently using Elmers Glue all and it seems pretty good, just doesnt dry to that nice shiny sheen the Wickes gets..
Anyone here have a good sub?
    Thanks!
