Hey there! Figured after all my lurking, I might as well post. Well, like many of you, I wanted to dress up for the TDKR premiere. I got a small group together, and we decided to all go in costume. I was assigned the Caped Crusader himself, and I knew that I didn't want to half-ass this first build. And so, with a little less than a month to create a costume to my liking, I began.
First, I started with the plain old Rubies TDK belt, which I find suprisingly accurate and of great quality for a costume. I also lucked into my dad's old riding gloves, and bought some sweet-looking gauntlets off the 'bay.
I then purchased some EVA foam from my local sears and began the torso piece. Using some motocross body armor I purchased, I cut out the torso pieces by freehanding and eyeball sizing.=P
I also made a basic neckpiece (not too intricate, but it retained a basic look), cut out a bat symbol from some craft foam from Michael's. After painting the foam and hot glueing it to the motocross armor, I cut out some leg armor from thinner craft foam and hot glued them to some Hanes thermal pants.
For the cowl I got extremely lucky. I was able to get a cowl made by the AWESOME Mr. pjw. Shipped in less than a week, and I was immensely happy with it. Throw in some boots I found and a local costume shop, and it was finished.
All in all, I thought it was a great way to begin my costuming hobby. It was tough, trying, needing of patience, but in the end totally worth the effort. I had a great time at the premiere and actually ran into a Bane there who was kind enough to take pictures with me.=)
So whattaya think? Any comments or (constructive) critiques are welcome. I'm thinking of redoing the whole upper body portion, as the raised foam doesn't really flatter me and ends up making me look a little thicker than I actually am. Any thoughts on how I could do this?
Thanks for stopping by!
Aeric
