My Eleventh Doctor costume Series 5 and 6

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume *Magnoli Series 6 Tweed pics!!*

There were really two styles of burgundy tie. One a real tie [that has to be knotted] more often they used one that fastens with a hook.

I think also that one had a twill effect (that Abbyshot based theirs on) and the other had the bobble basket weave (the Christmas Carol one).

Thanks for posting that image! I will have to get Magnoli to take a look at the shirt pattern and the bowtie...
Anyone know what kind of weave the shirt is?

Can you get any high-res images of the s6 burgundy tie - there is a shot in TIA where it is untied at the beginning of the episode. Magnoli needs more reference photos of it to get a replica made.

The shirt has a slight herringbone weave to it. Also a pic of my screen accurate S6 and S5 boots:

Great Pics Frosty! Also very cool to put faces to the names of some of my fellow Whovians.

The best way to get good quality screen caps is from Sonic Biro

Look through the episodes and save the pics you need.

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume *Magnoli Series 6 Tweed pics!!*

I just posted some pics in Magnoli's "Neckties" thread - thanks to RPF member Terrasolo, I have some really good shots of the bowties. I also noticed he wore a denim bowtie in series 5.

Where do I go for the actual "braces" (suspenders) Smith wears?

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume *Magnoli Series 6 Tweed pics!!*

Here's an update on my costume.
My tweed has been sent back to Manoli for changes and waiting to get word from him.
Thanks to a link from thorneyboy, I ordered a great 'off the peg' option for the S6 blue shirt - this is an incredible match to the screen-used shirt and I love the color and fabric texter.
Pictured below with my Series 5 style tweed and bowtie:

Pictured below are fabric choices for the Series 5 denim blue bowtie (bottom) and the Series 6 dark blue denim bowtie (top) custom made.
I should have the S5 bowtie done soon...

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume *Magnoli Series 6 Tweed pics!!*

The S5 bow tie definitely wasn't denim, but I like the blue one for the S6 tie. I think the really dark one is sticking too close to what I think is an altered or just oddly lit promo photo.

I've got a question that's only somewhat related. For another costume I need to find a white shirt that's the exact same fabric texture as the one you've just pictured above, but bright white instead of blue. Has anybody come across anything like that?

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume *Magnoli Series 6 Tweed pics!!*

Yep, the S5 was definitely not denim, but I think the darker one will work best for the S6 bowtie.

Risu - try hitting Moderntailor.com select pattern "pinpoint" and color "white" and there are two options that might work, or try here Best Custom Shirt for something a little cheaper.

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume *Magnoli Series 6 Tweed pics!!*

Are those Magnoli's fabrics or ones you found?

These are ones I found at Jo Annes (of all places!)
Hmmm....the Series 5 tie looks denim to me:

In any case, the blue fabric I picked out looks fantastic with the blue Paul Smith replica I have and looks pretty much exactly like what you see in this picture.
The darker navy denim looks really good - it's strange how it almost looks black when next to the blue denim - but by itself looks like a really deep navy.

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume *Magnoli Series 6 Tweed pics!!*

For a comparison - looks the part pretty good to me and since I haven't found a single blue bowtie that satisfies me like this one will, I can be happy with it.

Wow Ewan, those prices are honestly absurd. Didn't those places used to be cheaper? I think I'm going to keep my eyes open for some white pinpoint in the garment district tomorrow and make the shirt myself.

Also Frosty, here's the bow tie that modernboy and I got from Topman. It's been a while, but from what I remember it's very nearly accurate. They used to be grey though, we had to dye them.

Frosty - Colorwise, it's pretty good, but the material has a woven waffle-y pattern to it that you won't get with denim. The S6 material looks great though!

Dan - yeah, the Moderntailor stuff can get really expensive depending on the material, but the other site seemed pretty reasonable. What's the costume?

I saw some of those ties at Topman - having it made for me means I can try and get the shape pretty good - and honestly from just a few feet away, it looks exactly like what I see on screen. But since I don't wear the S5 version much It does not matter as much as the 6 ties.

I thought the Moderntailor prices were OK - they do give you the option for total custom or generic sizes.

I really hate poly blend shirts. :lol Won't wear them. itailor can get all the details but the fabric right for $40, too bad you can't send them your own fabric.

The shirt is for Ned from Pushing Daisies.
