Thank you! Yah I ran short on the lace about 18" waiting for the rest to come in and finish off the falling band. The pattern I used for cuffs was to small and will be redoing those more appropriate to my sleeve diameter at the wrist as well.

Split indeed! if you look close on the black doublet, you will see the sleeves are jsut undone all the way, I am going to strategically fasten the buttons to leave plenty of sleeve showing, and am in the process of a shirt of the same linen I used for this stuff to show through.

Those will look the part. Ususally the problem with Western and Mexican spurs is that they're aften adorned with "Western-style" decorations. These are plain, and bear a strong resemblance to what was used back in the 1500-1600's. Great find!

Sweet! And yeah, doublets are a pain to sew, especially if made period accurate.

Found a couple of pics of my old kit:

supposed to represent an early 1620's doublet with matching shirt. Rapiers are an Armour Class Pappenheimer and a generic swept hilt rapier from Leon Paul. Sword belt by a British maker.

Another shot of the Pap. I sold it some time ago - miss that rapier...

It's so nice to see so many Musketeer/Cavaliers about. back when I started doing SCA in the 70's, all everyone did was vikings and simple tunics. After a year of that, I decided it just wasn't me, too plain. I was one of the first Cavaliers in my area. I never did take pictures all that much, but here is a small picture of my first one, 1978. Very simple, using a spare Air Force dress jacket that I modified and my first boots that I modified from a pair of square toed harness boots. Those are still in use after 30 years. Since then I have made several others. Blue brushed corduroy, maroon velvet, full black leather and one I did a couple of years ago that was reversible. I'll never make one like that again, a real pain to work out, but it worked well for traveling to a Ren Fair in New Mexico, less to pack on the plane and it gave me several wearing options.

Got some new goodies for this years cavalier, a Leslie Harris Doublet, and custom made Bucket boots by zerkahloostrah, at ESTY, here the test fit with some mock up slops I had laying around. This I will actually be doing slops in the same fabric and go for the Juan Sαnchez Villa-Lobos Ramνrez look.

and a close up of the doublet:

Gorgeus material. I'd love to find that in a black and gold. Quite an evolution from your first red crushed velvet to the present offering in such a short time, I'm jealous, I need to get back to that style, I haven't made a new cavalier in some time since I converted a black leather jacket and pants to cavalier just for the heck of it quite a few years ago now. Once I finish my current projects on the board, maybe.... Keep up the excellent work.

Still tweaking and working my cavalier, now jsut working on what works and what doesn't. This weekend went well and I skipped the doublet for heat comfort.

And my outfit the weekend before was a total smash, but a little snug around the middle, back to working out again! :-p
