    Jul 31, 2012 - Movie costumes turned steampunk? #1

I need to come up with a steampunk costume and as I am known to spoof things, I thought I would punk-out a known character. I was originally thinking the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka, but now I am leaning towards Alex from Clockwork Orange. If you were going to steampunkerize a character, which character would you choose and what would you change to make it steampunk while still staying somewhat true to the original character?

How about a predator? It'd be somewhat like a regular predator, except he'd be dressed like Van Pelt from Jumanji. Predators also come standard with all of the sorts of props that are well explored and recognizable bits of steampunk kit: computer-on-a-bracer, respirator, fancy optics and body-mounted cannon.

Inspector Gadget might also be another good one. He's a great excuse to rig yourself up with a bunch of anachronistic gadgets, and the raincoat offers some really fun possibilities.

Just how far off the wall do you want to go? Steampunk Spongebob? Steampunk Transformer? Steampunk Zoidberg? I haven't seen anyone try Capt. Jack Sparrow yet. Cowardly Lion? Robocop? Pee Wee Herman? If you work fast, you might beat everyone to the punch on a steampunk Loki getup, but there are a lot of Lokis in the works just now.

If you wanted to do something a little more gritty, I haven't seen anyone do the Punisher or Riddick yet.

I was going to say Abraham Lincoln or that Monopoly guy (since you were naming off characters with hats) but I changed my vote for Riddick. Those goggles would look amazing steampunk style!

I'm going to avoid anything with a mask. Lincoln has potential. Spongbob was amusing so I googled it - Jon Stewart is working on it.

I ordered a white bowler for my Alex costume for a party where everyone wears white. I'm still not ready for GearCon in 3 weeks, though.
