    Jun 7, 2012 - Mass Effect Cosplay #1

Well.... this is my first post here. I hope its in the correct location.

I have been working on some Mass Effect costumes for a while now and decided to start posting pictures. The goal here is to provide inspiration for those out there that enjoy costume building.

I have been working on a Tali costume for nearly 2 years now. I will post pics next time. Today I just want to post pictures on my Sheppard Helmet. Due to time in making costumes, I decided to buy from Evilfx the Mass Effect armor. I realized it needed a helmet. The dilema was that I wanted to retain the EVA foam texture for the helmet.

Here is the work in progress... (I have been using a meat slicer to shave off normal EVA foam to then glue on the pep helmet that I made. Very risky if you treasure your fingers!!)).

Here is a pic of Tali. Its taken me a while to complete. I still have about ten things left to do (belts, shins, shoes, sleeves, etc). Just to give you an idea of the detail, after drawing the pattern for the fabric, i had special ordered the print. Then was was a masive endouver in sewing (ended with two hoods). I already have the shins about 70% done, and belts about 90% done.

My plan is to have it all done for Otakon (Baltimore) by July.

Do you think it would be possible to take like a paint ball mask as a shell and then use the EVA foam to make it in to the actual helmet? Let me know if i've lost you.

Interesting idea, but I am not sure if it would work too well. Have you tried using the pepakura Mass Effect helmet pattern? Thats what I used for the shell of the helmet. It takes some patience but the results are very good. The tricky part is in scaling the size. I ended doing two Shepard helmets (the first one was way too small). Feel free to ask for advice with this project, I have done alot of pepakura stuff (check out my Masterchief armor) with good results.

The Tali costume has taken be nearly 2 years (working on and off). It has to be done by the end of July and I still have some components to finish. Its been a challenging one because I dont do too well with fabrics. I have gotten help on this from a friend. But we have ended up with two Tali hoods (we fixed minor errors from the first one). Let me post more of Tali.

More of Tali. The fabric was custom ordered by my specifications. On the helmet, you can see the switch for the light and fan. The battery for it all could not fit inside the helmet, so I velcro'd it to the rear.

How are you having trouble with her harness? I've done Tal'i and I might be able to give you some help there.

I just downloaded the software today and have been trying to mess with it but I am still looking at it like this >> ... I can't even find where to scale the darn images or even how to tell the size... I'm a visual learner and reading posts from others is just like reading Arabic... I'm working on finding/figuring out a Fem-Shep chest armor template... so far I have had zero (0) results that doesn't involve photoshop and 80% of people on here think i'm a moron or something apparently lol

I did the harness like a vest. The sleeves and the clips help it stay on.
    Hope this helps.
