The Mandolorian Bat aka Bat Fett (Helmet Painted 4.29.13)

So I return with a new project. I just finished my Dredd 3D costume and now I think I will attempt my very first project before finding the RPF and finding techniques to make things easier. I am going to take my sweet time with it because there is no real deadline and Dredd cost me a small fortune and I will have to space out things some financially.

So I have seen a few versions of the Bat Fett/Batman Boba Fett so it really isn't an original idea but I like the concept so I am running with it. I have an replica Boba Fett helmet that isn't high speed but I didn't have to buy it so that is a plus. With that said, I start with the helmet.

So I sanded it down a bit and taped up the visor. It is a two piece helmet so I contact cemented the two halves together and I am debating some body filler to hide the seam. I did a few grid paper mock ups for "bat ears". I am 50/50 about them so any feedback or ideas are welcome. I don't expect too much interest in this thread but you never know.

Re: The Mandolorian Bat aka Bat Fett

Small update: So I took the grid paper ears and made a couple out of polystyrene. They kinda remind me of the fins on old 50's cars. I dig it. I am debating some other mods at the moment but just like my last build, I do the design as I go. Thoughts?

Re: The Mandolorian Bat aka Bat Fett

Update: Did a bit of work over the weekend when I could find the time. So I sanded the helmet again to smooth it out and give the paint something to stick to, I then primed it and went over it with a chrome base coat and then again with a black semi gloss. I sectioned off some of the areas I want to keep chrome. I did the left ear area and a part of of the left side below the visor.

Re: The Mandolorian Bat aka Bat Fett (Helmet update 4.28.13)

Update: So I finished some basic painting for the helmet. The lines aren't all as clean as I would like but that skill will come as I do more projects. Practice makes perfect, as they say. I think the overall theme is good and you get the concept fairly quickly. It still needs to be weathered and clear coated and I stupidly took off the tape over the visor to make sure how it looked without. So it will go on again but I have no deadline so it isn't a big deal.

This is cool. I wasn't sure the ears were pointy enough to be recognized as Batman quickly, but I actually like it after seeing the helmet painted. I look forward to seeing where you go with this, the suit should be pretty awesome.

Nice to see more originality :thumbsup

I'll be following this, though, to be honest... I think you'll look more like a red hood rip off thought :/ (JUST DON"T PUT ANY RED IN IT!!!)

No red Seth, I promise. And thanks...I won't be moving on this build too quickly and I guarantee like Bane, I will change my mind often. I build some the armor already but it was quite awhile ago and the skills were crappy at best. I am thinking polystyrene over 6mm foam. I want it solid but a little thicker than the 3mm plastic.

Thank you for the kind words. I was 50/50 about the ears as well until they were painted. I was debating pulling them off and creating a sharper point but I stayed the course and I think they turned out well. I am also looking forward to the rest of the suit. After the helmet is finished, I will begin the chest and gauntlets.

falsetto Nananananana Fettman, Fettman Fettman....nanananana FETTMAAAAAANNNNN.

YOU WILL NOW BE HUMMING THIS TO YOURSELF LATER ON....YOU'RE WELCOME.

Gj, looks great, cant wait to see it with the completed armor, this is gonna rock.
