The awesomeness of this amazing project is not to be underestimated!

Next time you can try the famous hourglass-shaped Moon Suit!

Made a bit of progress today!

I really, really did not like how the neck section of the helmet looked, so I experimented with some other ideas, and then cut it down to a more reasonable size.

Doing it this way mandates having a ring at the shoulder level of the suit, but, I will able to incorporate that without too much hair-pulling.

Looking good Joe, it's coming on well.

Anyone have any articulated arm/leg ideas yet?

    Thanks, gang!

I really do appreciate the feedback - because it's far too easy to get mentally wrapped up in following a course of action, only to discover that you are speeding down the wrong highway! : )

Within certain limits, I am trying very hard to be faithful to the appearance of the MMM figure.

Some compromises are inevitable, true. Especially as I plan to be wearing the suit for several hours at a time, at Halloween parties and later on at various sci-fi conventions through next year. The accordion joint materials are indeed proving to be a problem, as I had suspected they would be. Having a 'Plan B' never hurts: enter the Foam Cat Litter Mat!

    http://petcarelive.com/img/Aquarium/...r-mat-40-x.jpg

Lightweight, affordable, easy to cut and trim, and most importantly, takes black spray paint very nicely!

The Army Surplus belt pouches also take white spray paint well, which is good, as they make for perfect thigh pouches.

The helmet is coming along great, the revised neck ring looks 100 times better and more accurate too. Looking forward to seeing the new accordion joints.

Test fit of suit, neck ring, and foam accordion joint pieces. Fortunately, the dangling foam strip was moved out the kitten's path *before* she could nail it!

I am feeling cautiously optimistic about this! Actually, pretty darn proud - right up to the point where my wife observed that the suit was perhaps a wee bit more transparent than she had previously thought...

    Joe,
I printed a few of the #3 stickers. If you want one PM me your address. Because of the curve of the helmet they work best if you cut out the black ring and the number and apply separately.

If your worried about how see through it is, you could always use under armour heat gear under it. It would help keep you cool, and add another layer of material.

    Thanks for the input!

For the see-thru issue, I did a search here on the RPF and saw that others had solved this issue by using a Men's Dance Belt, so I ordered a white one, and, *that* should attend to that... uh, issue.

I had been unhappy with the Transparent Yellow on the visor, so I let soaked it overnight in Purple Power, which stripped it clean. Then I carefully re-coated it, and it looks MUCH better now. It then gets it's silver trim either today or Thursday.

Yes, I am doing this costume because when (and if) the movie actually hits the theaters, I'll be wearing it!

I was just hoping that your link had more up-to-date information; while I had wanted to do this costume for years -- about last 40 years to be precise -- it's literally not until I ventured out of the General Modeling and SS Modeling sections of the RPF that I gained enough knowledge and confidence to try making my own.

The suit is coming along great,I know you are trying to get it done for Holloween but the Velour undersuit isn't working for me. Mason's Spacesuit was based on real spacesuits of the time a better material would be white denim. Maybe later you can use the velour suit as a guide.

I was looking at Cameron's nice build of Major Matt's Rotojet rifle, and decided to get some shots of the Agent Zero-M Sonic Blaster that I have, and combine those with the pics of Mattel's prototype LaserBlazer that was auctioned off awhile back. They are similar, but different. The Sonic Blaster is 34" long, making it a bit bigger than the LaserBlazer.
