A new curve, as you can see the placement is much better in line with the lines on the side. and in the new line you can see the numbers from the pep which means the original line was at that same place.

Going to bondo the old line now

Re: IRONMAN MARK IV (1st timer, Working with your advice)

I already Pepped Robo's neck

But I think I'll make Dancinfool's neckpiece for my display.
Printing my pepfiles as we speak.

going to pep it as my bondo dries

Re: IRONMAN MARK IV (1st timer, Working with your advice)

Much better line on the back of the helmet, I'm guessing you did the first line by eye with the ends of the side lines as a guide. It's really difficult if you cover up the whole line so I'm glad you posted this because I've yet to do my hardening and filling and when I do I'll be sure to keep the lines visible during the bondo :D

yeah I did it by eye from the sides.. made a straight line.
It looked weird and then I looked at the model and found out it is slightly curved.

Don't worry about not seeing the lines, you can just print out and cut out the part under the curve and place it on the helmet again. that's what I did the second time and should have done right away.

but as long as we learn from our mistakes:lol

Re: IRONMAN MARK IV (1st timer, Working with your advice)

It's looking good, man! :thumbsup

I really like how clean you got the lines - very nice!

Re: IRONMAN MARK IV (1st timer, Working with your advice)

Small update,

this is a test eye I made from an old can.. I don't like that it only reflects light on the bottom angled part so I have to come up with something else.. the electric circuit is ok and I'll keep it like this.

I'm thinking of filling the case with resin (mine is transperant) and sand the outside for light distortion.

but if I resin my light I'll loose them if it fail so I don't know if anyone has a better idea on making the eye seem like a full glow but might be worth looking into it before continuing

Re: IRONMAN MARK IV (1st timer, Working with your advice)

Found in an old thread from Maulfett a way with reflective tape for the eye's. going to try that one out and hopefully it has better results.

Re: IRONMAN MARK IV (working on eye's)

I've bought some:

Re: IRONMAN MARK IV (working on eye's)

Here is the thread, it has some nice bright eye's I hope I can achieve the same with my reflective tape.. just need to wait till it ships. in the meantime I am fiberglassing my neckpiece #1

Re: IRONMAN MARK IV (working on eye's)

Very Nice job dude!!

I'll be making a warmachine this year for halloween the suit from foam and the head with pep files and bondo.

Re: IRONMAN MARK IV (working on eye's)

You need to figure out a way to cast light out of the eye, around the OUTSIDE, while leaving a part in the center, CLEAR so you can see out... That's how I think TONY does it... Somehow....

Re: IRONMAN MARK IV (working on eye's)

looking sweet dude :D
It's great to see a fellow dutch person on here :D
you going to wear the suit to any conventions ?
cause i might be making a warmachine suit sometime soon :D

Re: IRONMAN MARK IV (working on eye's)

OKay it's been a while but I've decided to "Just do it"' and continue on the eye's and hinges instead of looking for the perfect solution.. I've completely scraped the LED-eye's I've made before and started over again.

MightyJohn had a screw in the middle to attach/detach the eye's casing, I thought this was a good idea and so I added that..

I also strengthed the inside of the faceplate with bondo so I can sand/file the details in the eyesocket. The eye's were to thin do do before.

Re: IRONMAN MARK IV (working on eye's)

added a little piece of plate at the top so that the eye's will be in the right position..
Also curved a piece of clear plastic, to bend like the faceplate.. this'll be the outer layer of the eyes.
