Please don't take offence but it's too much I think (personally speaking). Were ST's really that filthy? It's only sand after all.

I had to 'clean-up' my Kotobukiya figures because they looked overdone.

Good effort though - thanks for sharing.

I like the crack in the helmet. It's a nice touch we don't usually see.

I think it looks pretty authentic especially if you consider it is only paint. Well done Rod.

Honestly? I don't like the dripping effect on the helmet at all.. not sure what that is supposed to be, but it doesn't look like desert sand. Looks more like a big crack in the helmet.
The suit looks too airbrushed. You want it to look like sand that has rests in all the crevaces and corners, not just sprayed on. Get yourself a Rag and alcohol and rub the paint in towards the recessed areas. I think you will find it gets you a better effect.

Maybe some varied tones to the sand/dirt. Could even try application with a sponge and dab it to get some variation in the layers? It does look a little too "airbrushed". That said, its very nice indeed, just needs a bit of refinement. Like Eagle said, break out the steak lol.

Looks good. I like the cracked helmet. Can you make the armour look less shiny?

The pic posted is from the Special Editions and not original ANH sandtroopers. I think on this forum we are too used to seeing hyper accurate 1977 ANH sandtroopers replicas and are comparing from them. They are a hard target to hit.

Never the less its a nice job for trooping.

Got a BFG yet

Cheers Chris.

Great look in general. I get the feel that this SandTrooper armor,
has been on duty under these conditions for quite some time,
and that cleaning/weathering/staining/re-polishing/getting used over and over,
are likely to produce this effect....thus, the un-repaired helmet crack.

The troopers in the screen-caps posted here, seem to show just the fresh dirt
of the current mission.
and
also, seem to be what might be called "re-issue" SandTroopers, cause, I do not remember
that "back-pack configuration being there in 1977, but, this newer backpack configuration
is still my favorite.

please feel free to correct if I got this wrong:-)

thanks for all the coments guys , i can still adjust the look of the sand, it was my first attempt at this... as for the crack in the helmet , i wanted that to look that way, i wanted the feel that he has been almost stranded in the desert and could not be repaired..... i will post a pic of me in the suit later with the back pack and my lewis. rod

I think this is a fair comment, good job so far, but I agree with what StreetJudge has said about the overall look of your paint job...to me it does look like you've just spray painted the armour. I think a little more layering and texturing will add to the overall effect of it and tie it all together and the believability of it. I think it's also important to remember which parts of the armour will get worn and dirtier and where the dust/dirt would settle over time while a trooper is on duty.

Sorry, never been a fan of airbrushed weathering. It just looks like airbrushed weathering instead of real weathering.

Dont want to rain on your parade - but I agree with Webchief

I`d paint it back to white...QUICK.

The crack and dust looks really poor - I think people are being a little too polite and dont want to hurt your feelings if they give this the thumbs up.

I disagree. Rod is a friend of mine and if I thought it sucked I would tell him honestly what I thought. And I think people here on the RPF are "generally" honest in their opinions when it comes to member projects. That's just my experience anyways.

no probs Not saying anyones lieing - maybe being a little kind.

I took another look to see if I was harsh - but I dont think I was. It really does look like a 1 dollar tan coloured aerosol has been taken to what looks like a perfectly good suit. The cracks the killer. I like a bit of weathering...but...well...I`ve said my piece. I`ll shut up now.
