    Jun 9, 2012 - Joker Red Hood #1

    Hi kids,

Just out of curiosity, has anybody sucessfully created a Red Hood helmet similar to the one Joker originally wore or the one Jason Todd wore recently?

It seems to just be a red dome - reminds me of Mysterio sort of - could be some kind of reinforced glass with a red one way mirror film stuck over it?

I am definitely interested in having a go at this helmet, I have some ideas even -

You can get a glass dome on ebay...

    NEW Clock or Display Glass Dome 8" x 12" (GLD-812) | eBay

And I found a link for a red one way glass film
One Way Mirror Film For Windows - Mirror window tint Film

Don't know how well the film would work and it would be difficult to apply to a dome shape without several seams...

I also had a look into shatterproof glass films to reinforce the helmet... Just a thought, I have no idea if it would work at all. Maybe if both sides of the glass were covered?

Let me know what ya'll think and how I could go about some of the things that need doing.

    Cheers

I think you have a sound theory on how to make the dome red mirror but visible on the inside. I don't think I would put blown glass on top of my head because it would be really heavy and easily breakable. You might want to look at getting a plastic/urethane dome if you can find one.

The ultimate way is vacuum forming with PETG and spray paint it with red brake light tint for visibilty. This is the product I would probably try and use:

VHT Paint Nite Shades Coating Red Transparent Type Translucent Finish

I've seen in the past where costumers will take a plastic dome and cut out a square eye piece. Paint the bucket metallic red then add the PETG square eye piece and put the mirror film on the square eye piece. You would have to try and seem it together but it would be safer then blown glass.

For the Jason Todd helmet. There have been several members make excellent Red Hood helmets like Jason Todd's in Batman:Under the Red Hood and the other comic versions. You just have to search on the thread.

I, myself sell three versions of the Red Hood helmet on my FS thread in the junkyard. Good luck.

I never thought to look for a plastic dome but when I posted this it was about 1am NZ time. Any thoughts on applying the red window tint to a dome? I'm not a fan of that obvious square where the eyes are, I would like my helmet to be as even and seamless as possible..

Also by Jason Todd I mean his newer 'Superhero' costume he wore in Batman and Robin. He wore a dome and cape, similar to Jokers, and a black little jump suit thing with gloves and boots and a skull emblem on his chest.

It's going to be hard to do that in the real world. The only ways I can think of is what I've described but you will still be able to see inside the dome from the outside.

Not sure how to make the dome completely one way visible. Either vacuum forming with a red acrylic sheet (but you will still be able to see your face from the outside)

Or painting a pastic dome w/ red tail light paint (but you will still be able to see your face from the outside)

The metallic one way window tint is ideal but will not form that great to a round dome shaped object. It is meant for flat objects. It would be very difficult to apply without seeing overlaping sections, rinkles or seams.

That's why I also said that you could find a metallic red paint similar to the one way window tint and paint the dome but cut out a eye section (covering that in the tint) and try and seem them together.
