So fill me in. This has probably been answered already, but is it possible to put it into a pepakura viewer or whatever, print it off with cardstock and build it and re-enforce it with resin and all that instead of foam? Please don't hate me. ;-;

Oh yeah, a lot of people don't like foam, so they go that route. Build in card, fiberglass the inside and resin the outside.

hey The_mike thank you for the comment, unfortunately i'm not gonna do a thread for the whole build becouse i didnt have time to take more picture at the moment, but im gonna upload the finish halmet soon, i'm painting it as we speak hahah..

G'day guys. I have a question.

I printed off jfcustom's modified robo3687's mkIV files and made an entire suit in cardboard. I am 186cm tall and have used the default scale. Most of it looks pretty good. The legs fit perfectly but the hips are a little narrow. So far the arms are just fine.

I used sharkhead7854's helmet at the default scale as well. I cut the back away to get my head in and it fits VERY snug with a bit of a bulge in the cardboard. Would increasing the scale of the helmet by 10% be too much, too little or about right?

If I do print it at 10% bigger and don't increase the scale of the suit, will a 10% bigger head look proportionally too big?

I can increase the scale by 10% over the whole suit, or simply add in a couple of widening strips into the cod so I can get my hips in. Would 10% bigger on the whole suit equal too much room?

looks really good sandbagger. i always have trouble scaling my helmets but i do know to scale up in small amounts, probably no more than 5%. you dont think 10% is much but you will find it is alot bigger.

Hello everyone! Just registered to say THANKS to JFCustoms for the modified pdo files and to post my Ironman helmet.
-first ever experience with helmet building and foam
-used decathlon fitness mat (3 eur) and hot glue
-4/5 hours total from printing to completion
-used a 0.96 scale (I am 194 cm, it is like 6'4), helmet fits but it's tight at the ears, I plan to redo it bigger and better :)

The one thing to keep in mind -- and this is the main thing that has been giving me scaling headaches -- is that when you scale up you're not just increasing the roominess/fit but also the length/height of the pieces. So if your arms and legs are perfect now, then they are going to be way off if you scale them up 10%. I initially overscaled mine by less than that and I had issues where my thigh piece was dropping below my knee and my shin piece was hanging about 5 inches below the bottom of my foot. I think the widening strips idea is a good one for the cod.

As for the helmet... are you planning on putting electronics/hinges in it? I've made cardboard test helmets in about 5 different scales trying to get it right and even with an abnormally large noggin and room for electronics & hinges, I still found 10% increase to be WAY too big. I settled on a 7.5% increase which was just large enough to give me the room I needed but didn't look that drastically out of proportion with the chest piece.

Thanks guys. I'm going to increase only the helmet by a scale factor of 15mm.

I stripped down to next-to-nothing tonight and tried on all the parts. Every thing fits soooo perfectly at the default scale I'm thinking that an upscale of any kind will be a tedious waste of time.

The only thing that doesn't fit is the cod and the helmet. I cut the cod to get in it and found that I only have to add a single one-inch strip, (1/2 inch each side) and the thing is spot on.

How do you handle the lenses for foam? I'm currently going at the Rocketeer helmet but am unsure what to use for the lenses or even how to attach them with foam specifically. A search only brings up the plastic casts kits. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
