Jun 27, 2012 - Iron Man Pepakura... The eyes! #1

Hello, everyone! This is my first thread... I just joined the RPF today, as a matter of fact. But I have been watching your works in silent wonder for months now. I finally decided to give Pepakura a try, and it has been interesting. I have taken my time, done a lot of preliminary research, and I am just trying to have fun with it. I started with the Iron Man Mk IV. More specifically, I began with the helmet. Some-times I feel like I shot myself in the foot. I need help with the eyes, and that is why I have posted this thread... I can't find anything out there about the eyes. There are all these little pieces, and they are hard to put together... BUT, I don't need them anyway, cause I intend to fiberglass the face-plate. So I need one of you model-Gods to bless me with some info, maybe a hint or short-cut, to get these eyes out of the way. Thankyou!

You still want to have something there to hold the shape when you resin/fiberglass. Otherwise you will end up with deformed areas

Tell me about it I spent 38 hours on doing my pep Mark 6 helmet just finished last week. And the eyes were really hard that like you said almost shot myself but it was hard for me because the pep files I downloaded were missing 4 pieces that were outside the printing area and those parts hold the top of the face plate and the bottom together and I couldn't figure it out until I downloaded Pepakura designer and printed those missing parts also what help me was scoring the folding lines this is a HUGE help instead of folding it with your nails I maybe did like half the helmet with out scoring the lines Oh on the small pieces I used tooth picks (the ones pointy on one side and not pointy on the other side if it makes sense) to help me glue the small parts I had to clean the tooth pick a lot but it help me a lot as well. Hope it helps :-)

hey Kevin . . I've just completed the same pep file and went on to sculpt over it . . I had the same probs with the eyes all i did was part build them simply cos it don't matter when you come to sculpt . . the oher probs I came across was the detail of the line goin round the helmet . . found the impossible to do with card . . and the detail under the chin . . I uesd strips of mounting board around those area's . . . I've put together some little movies how i did it and I'll be posting them on Utube this week . . if you send me your Email will send you them. . regards ABS

As is customary, I would like to give a big shout-out to Robo3687 for supplying the PDO files. I am, now, addicted to pep building, and it is his fault for doing such awesome work... When I finish this helmet, I plan to take a brief break from IRON MAN to tackle a Stormtrooper helmet for my brother. Then it will be back to IRON MAN. I intend to complete the entire armor... eventualy!
