Just fantastic!!! this build has me well tuned in and so much to learn from :-)
So I was eating lunch today and I decided to read the entire thread.
I'm so freaking blown away by the work you have done on the armor Mark.
Your work is just amazing! Wow! I think this is the best pepakura build ever. You do have some great skills!
I'm actually honored that you decided to get the helmet ahahhaah.
Keep it going!
Lmao Dericrw!!! I know right! Im looking at the shoulder bells, scratching my head, thinking how is that even possible?! If I tried that much detail with curved, etched lines I would have to redo it a hundred times and STILL not have it that perfect.
What did you use to cut those lines in the shoulder bells Fingaz? How did you lay them out to be accurate with each other? Beautiful work....absolutely amazing.
thanks,remember guide coat
thanks fulvio,it's a litle harder than repairing cars, but the feeling of gettin a piece to a point where you're totally happy with it is a buzzim honored to own your helmet ahahhaah.maybe i can provide you with a chest, arm or whatever someday
thanks rowdy,i'd like to say i had a magical elf do them, but i'd be lying.
nowt no simpler than,a pencil, bradawl n a needle file.draw the lines on,run over them with the bradawl cutting the line, the carve them out with the needle file, about 15/20 mins for the pair
Hey fingaz,
I'm in the middle of doing the back and chest and I noticed today after I have already hardened the pep, that the two pieces do not line up correctly. Do you have any tips on how you got yours to line up so flawlessly ? Anything helps! THANKS!
hi Dericrw
pep can be a pain in the butt, add resin, add fibreglass=pep distorts.
so its all a case of thinking on your feet, and making it up(creating fixes) as you go along
my chest n back is all in one.
to do this i made 2 spacers from a piece of wood to make the gap even where the raised bits by the neck almost meet the chest.
i then cut 2 pieces of plastic into strips,1 for each side where the front and rear meet.attached them to the rear on the outside with 2 self tapping screws, then butted the front/chest piece up to the rear, and then fastened the front piece to the plastic with 2 self tappers.
after you've done both sides then fibreglass the joint together inside with a few layers of mat.
remove the screws n plastic joints you then have a rigid structure, scim over the outside with filler, job done
you can always cut it into 2 again at a later date.
hope this helps
I hate you for raising the bar on the pep based IM. Now I have to work harder. LoL.
lol
been slow on progress, but finally got a little more done now.
made the molds for the bicep, elbow guards and handplates from silicone.
then today polyflo 120 n 60 arrived from
MB Fibreglass supplies online UK & Ireland - mbfg.co.uk ,great service n if you call them, ryan's very helpful, even look up your build n give advice
never know my luck, might get a few 3 samples if he's reading this with my nxt order lol
so afternoon spent casting, bicep mold needs thickening up a little,as a few depressions, very minimal fill, overall very happy with results, ready for paint,n a damn sight lighter than the pepped pieces, happy days
I love your build
but hate your skills
Okay I admit I'm just jealous of your skills![]()
Wow... very clean.

primer, paint, wet sanding, clear coats??
i'm soon to be painting some casts of a stormtrooper bucket i'm working on, any tips would be really appreciated. all the best mate! fellow UK fella!

Great work on the suit. i was wondering if you used any fiberglassing at all during your build?
I'm folloiwing a lot of "Iron Man" thread as I'm making my own Mark VI armor and I had to admit that all of your works are amazing !!!!
Wow this is awesome. Love it.
cheers deric,im still learning, this moldings a ball ache but fun.your builds looking well
thanks izam
thanks terra1,
tips,i'll try:
primer ive been using 2k or cellulose high build depending on how much levelling rqd, lightly dust coated with matt black then wet flatted with 400,a light flat with 600.then onto base coat couple of coats of silver base dusted lightly,4/5 of red candy left 20/30 mins gone over with a tack rag to remove any dust settled on the piece.then clearcoat 1 light grip coat next heavier coats for gloss however many needed for it to settle right.just using some prospray lacquer at the moment 1 good wet coat n it settles beautifully
if your anywhere nr bradford w yorkshire n need a hand get in touch, pm me can chat on fone
thanks,plenty of fiberglass used.
cheers mate, get some pics posted of yr build
thanks mate
Well from one Northern UK member to another, I tip my hat off to ya, that build, finish and paint job is second to none!
Lovely work mate. very well crafted. I've enjoyed reading through and seeing all the pics, Most impressive!
Just about to paint my Mark III so it's nice to see how you've handled this as I'm going with a Candy Blood red over Silver.
As you've worked with car bodies for so long I'm guessing you've used a spray gun rather than cans?
Great work fella, mighty impressive!
hiya steve thanks very much,we're nearly neighbours only 30mile down rd from you,if yr passing i'll get kettle on.
its painted with my trusty devilbiss sri gun.ive painted candy blood red in past its a nice n rich.if you need a hand give me a shout.
well done a bit more molding n cast another set of arms from molds out of gel, coat resin n mat.although this molding lark is all new to me im enjoying it
got the arms painted, weathered n worn i couldnt be happier with them
unfortunately the chest lets them down a littleso its gettin a major touch of rework (pics in nxt few days)
calves getting reworked with new pivots same as shoulder n elbows.
i'll get there in the end

simply gorgeous!... stunnig work there man!![]()
Wow.... fantastic work mate! , can't wait to see more!!!
wow very nice weathering and molded pieces! , are you planning on selling some of your casts? your build is making me want to detour from foam and do a fiberglass build again haha
Absolutely spot on! FANTASTIC!
Do you think someone with no experience in the paiting department could achieve a paint scheme like yours?
Nice work mate, I may just have to pop by and see this pint job and build. It looks stunning! what did you use to paint and apply the weathering if you don't mind me askin. Great work, I love it!
thanks mate,yr helmet is a beautiful piece of work
thanks,here's a few more
cheers jayjayn,to get it finished first is the planand then possibly a couple of suits for sale?we'll see
hiya deric, thanks mate,i wouldn't try with rattle cans due to the fact as the pressure drops the paint flow becomes a little inconsistent and can create patchiness.but with a spraygun and a lot of patience although tricky 'yes'.putting the silver base on from a gun aint an issue, when it comes to putting the candy on overlap evenly n keep a pen n paper handy to mark down the amount of coats applied to each piece to keep a consistent colour.
thanks steve, the weathering is black stove polish brushed into grooves with a fine brush, left over night then polished off leaving a metallic black finish.the worn areas are silver acrylic or silver rub n buff.the great thing about grate polish or rub n buff are if you over do it ,you can just wipe it off with a drop of panel wipe.
your more than welcome to pop bygive me a few weeks then there'll be more to look at.
lol
little updateics as promised
did a waste mold of original chest wasn't happy with a few bits after the finished arms.it was too flat faced, arc recess area not right, etc.(me being to picky)all critique welcome
pulled a urethane cast from the mold then done a bit of tweaking curves etc.need to get the primer flatted, then time to get the molds made for chest n back then cast
original
new chest waiting for primer
primered

You're so talented. I'm not even surprised at how awesome this is. From day one I could see it.
