Hey man, just wanted to say your build looks awesome so far! I'm about to graduate fro grad school and can apply 100% of my time for ~2wks toward my build...so excited! Thanks for the inspiration
You are welcome! thank you for the support utown! I hope you get to pursue a build! It is such a great pass time!
I am so totally stoked tonight! Had the worst day at work in about 20 years. Was up at 330 am. because one of my staff called outand I worked till 930 pm. Dragged my sorry tired butt home to find!!!! drum roll!!
My Bigturc bolts and Hip pods for my MK3 Build!!!
Damn are they beautiful!!!
You could struggle for a hot mess of weeks to get these done yourself but these are just awesome!
Just to give you an example... I build a pretty tight pep, but look at the difference between the Bolt and a pep pre-resin and glass/bondo and sand, rebondo/sand, spot putty/sand/primer/sand/primer/wet sand, possible primer again the wet sand again then paint!!!
This bolt set, estimate primer sand 400 grit, primer wet sand 800 touch up your mess ups and paint these bad boys!!!
Can't wait to add them to my build!
Bigturc, a huge thank you and well done, professional product, professional contact, shipping and one hell of a guy too!
Made my day!I hope you make some more parts in the future! I will be ready! Especially if it is War Machine LOL!

this is awesome work, your dedication is very encouraging. I've sub'd to this thread, I look forward to seeing more of your progress. it's also good that you're able to get help from other people on the site. I've been looking around for a while and have only just joined, it's great seeing the support and gratitude being shared, top stuff![]()
People like you are why I stopped pepakura before I even got through the Iron Man helmet. By that I mean you make mine look like child's play haha Great job!!
The helmet is the hardest piece! So many folks would stay with this of they started with easier parts! Thanks for the compliment, but honestly I am just patient and keep going! I have also thrown out my share of screw ups LoL! I also know that my time and skill and money are better spent elsewhere. That's why I bought a MK 3 helmet from Projectearth7 and a War Machine helmet from Maskedrider!!!
I just read through your thread and this looks great. Keep up the great work man.
I have been following your progress.... its been a while... any update???
Really excited![]()
I am, but with the drive to complete War machine it has taken a back seat. I promise more progress now that I have realized WM not gonna be finished by Halloween!
I'm starting Bondo on some WM parts and will probably do my lower leg while I'm at it. Plus I have been using my dremel to take dOwn the ridged seams inside the lower leg in order to make it easier to work on and wear later.
Thanks for asking! I'm not quiting this build, but I do want it as close to perfect as possible for me!
Plus we've had our Ac burn out so tons of money, time and bad worKing conditions have stopped everything. On the plus side there is a Star Wars convention coming this weekend! I am so going!
Maybe see some guys from the 405th, 501st or the Dented Helmet groups!

Had a great time at Star Wars Celebration VI today down in Orlando where I live! Learned tons!! Found out there is a local supplier for the Smooth-On/Smoothcast product lines here in Orlando!!! No more shipping costs, Annnddd they do seminars and classes on using their materials!! I can learn mold making ect.. don't know the cost, but the implication was free as it creates customers!!
Reynolds Advanced Materials | Everything for Mold Making & Casting
Really nice fellow named Tony gave me info and let me chatter is ear off LOL!
Talked to a bunch of great armor fans from the 501st Legion and got a ton of information on helmet ventilation and made new friends!
Special thanks to Firebat of 501st and RPF for his and his lovely wifes time! Man he rocks a great Imperial Tie Fight Pilots suit and helmet!
Anyone who has worn an armor suit and helmet knows how quick the air gets stale, hot and how quickly the lenses fog... I was very surprised that not one Vader wearer I spoke too had a helmet fan and how many Storm Troopers do? That Vader helmet is huge too and with that huge helmet over hang on the back, or the grill on the front, it would be so easy to stash a fan...Guess the Force works in mysterious ways!

So I've had a week without A/C,laying out six grand for a new system,

,
then a rapidly growing dissatisfaction with the way my shoulder bells are coming out!
Can't bear to turn out anything less than perfect. Surreal understands.. I am fundamentally satisfied with my neck seal...so far my only "success"
*SIGH*
The good thing is forced inactivity = some time spent on the net doing research and looking for better techniques. Also found someone to look at my work and teach me molding techniques. My hope is to convince them to teach me hands on some of the most advanced molding techniques. Yep, I am going to mold the whole suit... I think the results will be worth it.
Think I may have found something as well to do a better job covering the pepakura and prepping it for molding. Sounds like I have been productive? Sort of, doesn't actually feel like it. I haven't moved any of my builds forward physically, but the old addage, measure twice, cut once really is becoming something of a mantra here in my house/ creative mad scientist lair. I will be posting results after some trial work.
More later!
M
Still here! Just busy as heck with my WM build and some....issues! All resolved now! Eagerly getting back to work!!
M
The micarta material is really interesting and would come in handy for a lot of builds I'm working on. Thanks!
No I haven't died or quit LOL!
Just super busy with my job, working on War Machine and putting together my fallback Capt Merica costume as well as modifying my wifes costume for the super hero costume party we are going too!!
Here is something I hit on that will help with all my builds so thought I'd pass it on.
So if you are like me....and whose not when it comes to being fussy about my build that is.
Simple tip folks might like;
I hate when I am resining my pepakura how the edges sag when they get wet with the resin..
Simple cure,
Wait till the resin is no longer wet and take a bunch of popsickle sticks and rubber band them together like this...
In essense you are making a cheap clip.
then you take sticks to make braces on the sagging edges and clamp them like this....
and like this....
Basically you are making a clamp/brace affair that can stay in place till the resin is 100% cured.
I guess you could put wax paper in between if you were afaid the resin might stick..to the stick
You may ask why not use file clamps (the black metal ones) they work but are expensive, you might have to go get them and the tension is not adjustible. You can simply move your rubber bands up or down on the stick, increase or decrease wraps to make the grip softer...so it doesnt crush things, I even was able to T-Pee the braces into a V then lightly clamp it to keep the V shap I wanted on the edge!
M
Works for me, hope it helps others.

Yes, I am still here chugging along on my War Machine> How I wish to god that I had stuck with my MK3 I'd probably be near finished by now....
I am still however gathering parts and items to make the MK3 better when I get back too it!
I am waiting for my Surreal MK3 helmet and it is to die for per everyones rave reviews! I will post pics when it arrives...![]()
What have I missed?? War machine is in? Mk3 is out?? A surreal helm is on its way? It appears I have a lot of catching up to do.
