Re: IRON MAN MARK III (Polyethylene mats)

This camping pad stuff sure has an intense texture too it. If you shopping at walmart anyway look for their workout mats. They have a very smooth back side though their coated rubber side is extra bumpy compared to some floor mats.

Okay, okay! Let's start with a few pics of some of the templates that I used. The first photo shows the chest/back base, the second the back detailing and the third the shoulder bells (which I will fully assemble today and post the bells with the rest of the still (in progress) suit. In the meantime, refer to the pics throughout this thread to see if you can match everything up.

Pics of the suit coming later (a couple of hours after I finish the shoulder bells).

Re: IRON MAN MARK III (Polyethylene mats)

As promised (albeit a little late), here are some updated pics. The shoulder bells are just being held in place for the pics and will be adjusted accordingly. More pics early next week. I'm beat and hitting the sack. Until tomorrow .

OSSIM!
Sorry, I've just become obsessed with foam projects recently and to see another Ironman suit done from foam (other than Don Roberts) would be cool.

The seam will be pulled together with short velcro straps and then covered up with the "spine" that runs down Iron Man's back.

Dude this is oustanding. You are a genius! Those shoulder bells are blowing my mind man. I cannot believe you did all this with camping mats! Congrats.

The more templates you could salvage the better.

It seems like foam materials are becoming really popular lately. Your build is going awesomely man, can't wait to see it finished.

Re: IRON MAN MARK III (Polyethylene mats)

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to convert a 2d image im drawing onto the foam so that it wraps back around in 3d as it should.

Any tips?

what if you try it in reverse? like 3d to 2d then back to 3d. like make a rough model out of any kind of paper you have lying around, holding it together with glue or tape, then take that and cut it in areas until it lays flat, like a template, then trace that onto the foam, cut, glue and assemble

So amazing!! Your lines are crisp and the symmetry is perfect. That above all is what really helps this look the part!!

Thanks. It all about simple measuring on the part of the body you're making the armor for.

Re: IRON MAN MARK III (Polyethylene mats)

what did you use to attach the calves to the thighs, some kind of rivet? and how did you do the feet? did you cover an existing shoe with foam or make new soles out of foam and painted them black?
