    Jun 29, 2012 - Iron Man mark III #1

Today I got all my parts loaded up and took them to work for cleaning up some casting lines. (My work has all the air tools I need to get this done quickly and efficiently) I still have some finish sanding to do on the egdes. But the surface is so smooth it really won't need much if any sanding. Plans for this are as a display in my movie room. After wearing my Robocop suit for a night once, I learned my lesson! I'm waiting on the mid-section to arrive right now. The maker of these parts really did a good job in both the original sculpture and the castings. Producing something like this takes a huge effort, and when it's done right it really shows! Next is the frame work he'll be supported with. More pictures to follow....

Trying to get back on track with this after a busy schedule at work, and a recent death in the family. Life keeps getting in the way of my projects! I have most of the body cleaned up, but still needs to be finished on the edges and magnets installed in various places. Right now I'm trying to figure the best way to get the knee joint to work, or at least look correct since this is going to be a static display in my movie room and not a suit to wear. (I think?) I was thinking about using some of the teeth available on shapeways in the helmet, or maybe make my own? Any advice from the pros would be more than welcome! Also looking for a 1/1 RDJ head to modify to fit into the helmet.

Don't have access to a sprayer, so I'm doing rattle cans. For the gold, I tried several brands before settling on Rustoleum Bright Coat metallic finish. The red I went with Nissan Merlot AX5. It's an automotive finish, and a bit darker than I was expecting.

I still need to paint the torso, but I'll post some pics in a bit of what I have so far

Here's a couple pics of what I'm working with so far... Still undecided on the red. And obviously not done yet

Looks great. Are you using steel wool on the gold? I can see a bit of texture there that looks pretty good. Get some clear on the red and it'll pop!

Need to refinish the face plate. I used a paint stripping pad and it was a bit too much. Going to go with something finer

Those Unibeams are only sold with the torso pieces, it is a 3D printed piece from the movie files so 100% accurate. No real way to get one any more.

Looking great. The kits are very cool. I just don't have the skills to paint them, etc. But yours is looking sweet.

By comparison, this is going to be an easier paint job than many other projects I've done. Large areas of color versus smaller scale and high detail. If you took your time you could paint this thing, lots of people here with skills and advice to help.

Alright, here is a better look at the paint color in (overcast) daylight. Much happier with the color now. I ran out of paint, so I had to order more. Still need to finish the back, wet sand everything, and give it another coat before I clear it.

That's looking great! Although it's not accurate to the movie, the color red I used here on my Sideshow bust is what I think I'll use. (the gold isn't this bright it's the picture) I have something up my sleeve for the gold on the suit...

Actually that is incorrect on the red. They used at least 2 different shades of red in filming possibly 3. I would guess depending on the lighting of that shot. Posted this before but thought I'd throw it up again, these are 2 of the screen used hero suits.
