Iron Man Helmet finished 7/23 update 1st post

Here is the first cast from the molds, painted and assembled. The eyes are temporary and are pieces of the spraycan top that I hot glued in place. When I get a chance, I'll replace them with metallic gold lenses. Feel free to send me an email if you have any questions, and thanks again for all the praise and support!

Here are the latest pics. The mask gets held on with magnets, two inside the mask, and two mounted on the helmet by the temples (the round indentations are the same size as normal ceramic magnets).

The back panel is also removable to get the helmet on and off. It is held in place with magnets as well.

As far as the eyes lighting up...man I really haven't thought about it.

I just have some more sanding and fine tuning, and I should be able to start the mold next week.

Hopefully I look less like Freddy Mercury than the sideshow bust

These are the latest pics of the helmet cast in fiberglass and coated with primer. The last pic is the helmet in a plastic bag with a clay sculpt of the faceplate directly on the helmet.

The cast still needs to be cleaned up a bit before it's ready for silicone, but the whole project is moving along nicely...

I just started this a couple of days ago, so it's still pretty rough. I have to admit that I've never really read any Iron Man comics, but I love some of the armor designs I've seen over the past few years. This one is based on the 1:2 Sideshow bust (pictured w/ mine). I plan to make it fiberglass, wearable, and have a removable face mask.

Thanks for looking!

Michael

Hmmm...I'm sorry, but your sculpt of the yellow guy looks nothing like the dude in the mask...

jk - great job. I would love to hear about your smoothing techniques.

Awesome! One of my favorite Iron Man designs... glad to see you're doing the design justice... How are you planning on keeping the faceplate in place? I'm thinking magnets?

Re: out of the park

Thanks everyone. I was thinking of magnets for mounting the faceplate as well. I got a bunch more done in the last couple of days and I'm taking a break from it over the weekend.

Next week I hope to cast the first Lord Marshal and get Iron Man ready for molding.

Re: New Iron Man Helmet WIP 1/1

Interesting seeing someone else are also doing this project.
There are allot of varieties to go for and you chose one of the versions i also like the best.

I am doing the entire armor, movie style mixed with the newer comic style.
A streamlined armor.

That looks Awesome!!!

How are you gonna make it so it'll fit down around your head to wear? It looks like it's form fitted around the head.

Can't wait to see your updates!

Re: New Iron Man Helmet WIP 1/1

Nice! I'm very interested in seeing where this goes.

As for the fitting around the head, it looks like those lower plates in the back of the head would move (slide up) - at least on a functional armour, don't know what you've got planned.

Very cool design!

Man, between this and the Lord Marshall helmet, you are getting this sculpting stuff nailed!

I really like this . Can't wait to see the updated pics when it's all finished up. I think it will be a work of art.
