    Jul 13, 2009 - Indiana Jane. #1

Long story short...............My daughter Sara (12) want an Indy costume for this year Halloween. She will call herself...Indiana Janes.
So we went shopping today and got pretty much what we needed to start off...a pant, shirt, shoes, belt and an old brown cowboy hat. Total cost is about $17.
    Here some pics.

I did post this thread in COW with a few questions. With the help of a few members there.........I decided to give this project a go.
Since I don't have much to do today (Sunday afternoon) .....Why not..... :
I found a bucket that really fit the hat for re-block.

With the help of my son, we started spraying the hat......

    http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/IMG_3351.jpg
While it is drying, I decided to go to Michael's to look for some ribbon. Found this chocolate mocha color...which I think is perfect for Indiana Janes...brown with alittle pinkish.
Got home and the hat is all dry. Using my Fed IV Deluxe as a template, I trace and trim the brim. The cut wasn't perfect, so i use a sanding block with 400 grit sandpaper and smooth it out.

    http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/IMG_3355.jpg
Then I went ahead and make the bow and the ribbon...........

    http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/IMG_3370.jpg
    http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/IMG_3367.jpg
Then slide it on the hat and tack it and put back the liner.

    http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/IMG_3373.jpg
    Finally..................

Awesome! Just add a little Ben Nye's Fuller Earth and you are ready to go! Just brush a little onto the hat brim, bowl, and the ribbon.

You can do the same on the pants and shirt. It will wash out eventually but if it is only a costume than it will look weathered and distressed for awhile!

Excellent job! Making costumes for kids is FUN!

    Hey Az,

That hat looks great. Compared to the Dofrman Pacific "official" joke of an Indy hat, it looks PERFECT!!!!

I can't wait to see the costume finished!!!

Finally after all this time, I completed my daughter's costume just in time for Halloween.
    Fedora from this thread.
    Shirt - LL Bean - $3
Pant - real Pink Officer pant - $3
    Jacket - Pawn shop - $12
Whip - got from a friend.
Canvas Belt - local military surplus store $3
    Belt - homemade
    Holster - homemade
    Bag - real MKVII
    Strap - homemade.

Since my daughter Sara decided to do Indiana Jane.......Why not have my son Dylan accompany her.
So nothing more appropriate than a "Short Round".
Everything I made were bought from local thrift stores. Total cost is less than $15. Even the frog buttons for the jackets are home-made.

    Thank you guys.

Yeah...I'm not going for the screen accurate but try to get as close as possible. Indeed she is Indiana Janes and he is Short Round just for Halloween.

"Short Round" is only 4. So I figured that is the best costume for him to accompany his sister. The inner and outer jackets are modified from another normal clothes that I got from local thrift stores. I can show before and after pics if anybody interested.

I am in awe of your reblocking of the hat.

Can you provide more details on the base hat you started with?

That's very cool. I'm thinking of doing something similar for the Halloween parades at the schools/daycares where my clients attend. I had a Jedi costume ready, but one of my kiddos is going as Obi-Wan and he'd be pretty mad if we ended up dressing alike.

    Hector,

If you go to the beginning of this thread, I pretty much documented step by step on how I reblocked the hat with pics. The original hat was just a regular old cowboy hat that I found at a local thrift store. I like the color and it fits perfectly on her.

Long story short....took the liner and old ribbon off, slide it on a bucket and soak it really good. Then let it completely dry.
I trimmed the brim and sand it smooth. Restiched the liner back on and a new ribbon with a cross-grain ribbon. I spray the crown with "Karl hat stiffener" and let it dry over night. Then I use steam and cloth pins to rebash the hat.

Just let me know if have any further questions.
