Thanks.
I will most likely just build the rifle from styrene and PVC.
I may do another version later with functional internals.

Here is my 3D render of the rifle that I will be converting to CAD for my build:

Have you considered the Nerf Stampede? It's got an all electric trigger so with a bit of soldering, you could place the trigger wherever you need it to be.

Re: Halo Reach Jorge Build

Not much of an update but I assembled one of the knees last night:

My model that I used for templates:

The piece seen within the lower recess is a support strut for Pepakura thus not used for the foam piece.

I've also decided to create a tutorial on using a scroll saw for foam builds as I know of at least one person that has been inspired enough by my build to buy a saw for their own work.
I should have it up by tomorrow morning.

This is looking incredible! Curious, are you planning to construct the chestplate and backplate as one piece like most people do, or are you going to use clips or buckles for it? I'm considering using either side-release or top-release buckles like you see on backpacks and messenger bags to join the two parts when I finally build my armor.

I will most likely split the pieces beneath the arms and then use side-release nylon buckles to connect them.
It just seems like it would be a lot easier to get in and out of that way as opposed to trying to put it on like a shirt.
I'll have to wait til I have it assembled to officially decide though.

Re: Halo Reach Jorge Build

Your work is definately inspiring. When working with the foam, do you have to modify the pep files? Do you score the edges to get the clean fit that's in your work?

Thanks,

Derick

Re: Halo Reach Jorge Build

That backpack is amazing (it also demonstrates I might need a scroll saw myself). You mentioned interlocking it with the suit...does that mean you intend for it to stick by means of friction or supplemented with magnets and/or velcro?

I guess that depends on whether you intend on marching in your outfit or staying inside a (relatively) cool convention hall. I personally would go ahead and make a compartment for some minor storage at least that way you have the option. Also functionality is always a plus on props.

Re: Halo Reach Jorge Build

thanks to Tyr, i went out and bought a used saw. it works great for the 1/2 stuff.

@ Tyr, what glue are you using for your 1/16" orange foam? im starting on the detailing part and need something good and easy to use.

Re: Halo Reach Jorge Build

if youŽre willing to use a nerf gun , go for the vulcan YouTube - ‪Modded Nerf Vulcan Ammo Capacity‬‏ its pretty much the same weapon , youŽll just need to adapt a shell that resembles the one used in halo reach

Re: Halo Reach Jorge Build

Nice pep work! The folds and everything came out very clean and also you worked with very good files from what it looks like! I have seen many people start a "Jorge" project but never fully pull through with it till the end. I must say though that this one needs to be finished. I would have to say this is by far the best one I have seen yet!

Loving the progress! I wish I was taller and could pull off such a sick costume. Your 3D work is as awesome as your build.

I haven't released any files but the Knee(not unfolded).
The knee can be found here in the 3D section:
Soaring Hammer • A Community for Prop Builders
Registration is open until the 1st of next month.

I'm busy with home renovations for another month and then I'll get to work finishing and releasing the models.
