The Flash Costume Build Thread!

Hey RPFers! This is my first thread so please go easy on the comments. I have increasingly been obsessed with the flash. I realized that he is not just some guy who can run fast. He has been one of the coolest superheroes ever. Paying homage to the speedster, I have decided to make a Flash costume! Hopefully you guys like it! Also, feel free to use any of my designs and or ideas if you'd like to!

1) The first step for me is sketching out my ideas. It'll help me decide how I want my costume to look and will contribute to making the final look perfect. I'm starting with the emblem. I sketch out a rough 2d shape, clean it up a bit, and then add details/make it 3d looking. Please leave constructive criticism below if you can!

I'm working on a custom flash too. How are you planning on doing it? Armored or dye sub or spandex? I'm looking forward to this. I'm subbed! and I'll try to help if needed but I'm still kinda new too.

Thanks a lot man! I'm still thinking about how I should do it but it's definitely gonna be armored. I actually might need help since I'm 14 and have limited resources. Gonna post finished sketches now!

Here are near final sketches. They are pretty rough but they'll properly guide me! Sorry that they're upside down.

If you want, you can use my designs if they'll help :)

I need advice. How should I go about building the cowl? I was thinking, build 2d pieces and assemble them at the lightning bolt shaped seams. But that poses a problem. If I do that I won't be able to get the chin to form right without making extra seams.

I'll post some of my designs later  that's really cool it looks like the CW show.
Yeah, it was kind of inspired by that. I actually like the professor zoom cowl and adapted mine to that. It was also inspired by the flashpoint movie!

I'm modding JF Customs Capitan America pep helmet Idk how familiar you are with pep files.
Yes I have worked with pepakura files many times for batman costumes and such. However, with peps it is too rigid and the flash cowl looks like it should be flimsy. But, I could try pep files with fabric or something. The other thing though is that I only want the seams on my sketch. However unrealistic that may be. :(

I wanted mine to be like a helmet so I like how the pep works lol. For yours I would recommend looking into a face shell to attach to the mask or maybe using craft foam because its still pretty flexible.

I don't want it to be a helmet because of the separation between the torso and helmet. If it was fabric or foam it could elongate down my neck. I was thinking of using craft foam like I did on a TDKR costume I did last year. Would using clear coat spray help solve spray paint fading problems on the foam? I was wondering because my TDKR costume is practically colorful again :p

I might look into a helmet still so after you're done modding the file could you maybe send it to me?

Thanks. Yeah. I have actually gone about making it by hand from scratch and have made templates and its really coming together. Will post pic in a minute.

Making templates for the cowl...

Well... The method I'm doing just won't work :( The foam isn't form fitting enough and it bends in really weird ways. And there is no way that I will get it as smooth as I want with foam. Plan B: Gonna try to modify or find a pep. I'll get back to this as soon as I find something

I'm trying to modify jfcustom's captain america helmet and its working out pretty well. Only downside is that I'll have to make a neck peice now... We'll see.

Aha! I have found a reference picture that proves that Archer21 is correct. Judging by the thickness of the chin piece you can tell that it is in fact a helmet. I'm almost done modifying my cap helmet. Pics soon.

That's what I was thinking as I did the same in my TDKR costume and it worked beautifully. Anyways almost done modifying the cap helmet. I just have to find a way to make it more rigid without fibreglass or any sort of resin.

My Cap helmet turned out great, but the top isn't as form fitting as I want. I have a magneto helmet pep. I think I will take the back and sides of that and make a front panel of my own. This time I know it'll work. Archer21 hows ur mod going? Any Luck?
