Jul 31, 2012 - First Attempt! IRON MAN MK III Foam Build! #1

I've seen and tried a lot of ways on making an Iron Man Helmet.

    1. Free Hand
    2. Pepakura with saw dust as hardening (Failed big time!!!)
    3. Pepakura with fiber glass resin as hardening (Failed)

Upon searching this forum i saw the rubber/foam armor and i tried to make the helmet and it seems that i could do this. It's way easier and cheaper than the fiber glass resin method.

So I started on my MK III foam armor build and I'll be posting my progress here. To all the pro's and other noobs such as myself please feel free to give some comments, advice and motivating fuel hehehehe :P

Depends on how do you want it finished.
The simplest one is to coat with PVA then paint. But you need to have extra clean seam otherwise it'll shown everywhere

Saw dust? never heard that , might be worth exploring. Can you elaborate?

I wanted to try paper mache method. Another RPF member is doing it now, I might try it on my spiderman mask. It's actually newspaper coated with PVA.

I also wanted to try roof sealer method (see JFcustom thread).

I thrown these methods in someone else's thread but got no respons. Now that I have 3 masks to work with, I want to try it myself, maybe today.

I tried fiber and failed, I don't like do resin and definately not fiberglass. So I am looking for alternatives too

using saw dust or as we pinoys call it "kusot" as hardener. Applying glue on cardboard then layering some saw dust and repeating it for 4 to 5 times. it'll create a coconut shell like finish but very vulnerable againts water.

    Magandang Umagah,
Similar on making MDF boards. You need to coat with vasnish one it dries to keep water/moisture away. It should work, why fail (except the water part)?

Same thing as my suggestion using PVA. PVA (white glue) will dissolve when wet again, so either paint, prime or varnish. Using roof sealer will not have this problem.

When taking pics, try not to use black background, use white instead or something bright.

I heard about the hurricane. You alright?

Try using PVA, it doesn't need sunshine, just leave it overnight. Or use acrylic glue. As for varnish, you can use thin clear spray coat (but not indoor). Just enough to cover the surface so it is sorta waterproof.

IM suit? just one. Hybrid, and I am halfway doing Mk6 chest, so I will end up with two suits (although the color will be wrong). Waiting approval to make rescue armor (female iron man).

Look for JFCustoms on here. He modded a few of other peoples Ironman pep files to make it easier and with less parts. He has a thread on here about it
