Jul 25, 2012 - Fill area between cod and thigh? #1

Has anyone discovered a way to fill in the area between the cod and thigh pieces on a foam Iron Man suit besides just using an undersuit in red or black? I am getting ready to build the legs and would like to try and address this during the build. I initially thought of using some 2mm craft foam, but am not sure if it would work well enough. I'd like to try and cover as much of ME as possible and not have to rely on an undersuit to fill in the missing sections.

I think of 2 ways of doing this. One is to go the undersuit method but going with a black undersuit with circuitry/wire/hoses or some sort of metallic type mesh stuck or printed on it. The other would be to put thin strips of overlapping material on an undersuit or attached to the exposed areas of the thigh on the armor itself. Think of Roman segmented armor but only on the exposed areas of the thigh. The only catch would be to put a little extra space on inner parts of the thigh armor pieces to allow for the strips. Personally, I think the printed circuitry undersuit would be the easiest to do and using something looking like a metallic mesh would probably look really cool and be somewhat realistic since real plate armor often utilized patches of mail sewn to an undersuit to cover the gaps in the armor.

I KNEW that I had seen it done on here before. Hard to figure out what to put in the search box, though.

That looks to be a great way of solving the issue. Once I get the thighs finished, I'll have to see what I can do. It looks SOO much better than having an undersuit exposed.

Completely agree about it looking better... As far as the search goes, I used "iron man thigh"
    Sometimes it's the simple things
