Everyone has a slightly different opinion about what they think the most screen accurate jacket should look like. From the sounds of it, JAL is very accommodating and willing to work with each client to make them their own unique ultimate Durden jacket. Want the leather thinner? You got it. Brighter red? Darker read? Different cut? You got it. I can tell you, that is a very rare service to offer.
Leather is like paper. A brand new stark white sheet of paper looks crisp and stiff, but you crumple it up enough and it starts to soften. It almost takes on a fabric feel after enough abuse. Leather is the same way. The more you wear it and abuse it, the softer it gets and it starts to look, feel, and hang different. Most people don't want to pay $900 for something that looks old and wrinkled, nor are they likely to drag it in the dirt and beat it up right after they bought it to get that look. That's why none of these jackets look like the ones specifically engineered to look 30 years old for the movie. I'm sure a ton of creativity and effort went into getting the screen jackets to look vintage, and I'm positive the studio spent more than $900 a pop for this service.
