*bows and worships* I AM NOT WORTHY!
Seriously, though. This is awesome. BEYOND epic.
Dammit, you beat me to the punch!
I just bought a new set of EVA foam just to do an NCR ranger, too. All in all, it looks great so far! Just weather it some and you're good to go!
Great work on the mask there, many find that one the hardest.
though the mask being built out of plastic its pretty close to my skill set.
the coat will be the real trial, since you can't sand or glue fabric (unless your weathering it but you get the idea)
i have limited sewing experience, and the only real attempt was my scarecrow costume i shared on these boards.

Subscribed! Looking really good, that chest armor turned out great. I'd love to get my hands on the pep file for the mask myself.

i'm my opinion this is a great pep file, i did take it upon myself to score a few extra areas for additional detail, such as the "bridge" of the nose of the mask, but it was very easy to build.

the links dead
i joined this forum to watch this thread progress
have been hacking and bending away at this metal helmet with limited success.. i guess since the thing was made to deflect bullets, i should have expected it to be tough to shape.
i'll be grinding and cutting a few pieces off and then applying some bondo before i distress it further and give it a desert waste color.
needs more off the sides i think.
the wife stole the mask earlier too, before i chopped it up.
and i'm chopping up half the mask to make templates from, so i can reassemble the mask in plastic over thanksgiving holiday.
Hey came along this post after a google search and I joined the fourms heh... I plan to make an NCR ranger outfit as well. Outfit looks awesome!!!!!!!! I was going to throw an idea at you modify this costume duster? The only problem is that its shiney! maybe you can find a way to make it more canvas like! For the bullet holes just unload a gun to where you want the holes lol Tell me what you think!

here is the place my mate got his oilskin duster from. He got the brown.

To make that coat less shiny you could just soak it in hot water and then go at it with 0000 steel wool. It will make the coat less shiny and depending on how hard you scrub it a worn effect.
Then you'll need to shoot some holes in it.
Looks pretty cool so far!
I would just weather it down and go with "I'm the Ranger who didn't get shot".
yeah, i was worried that store bought ones would not be exact enougth to the source material,
i'll have to find some good thick weave canvas or duck cloth to build it from.
oh and it will have bullet holes
just a quick update,
not had as much time as i had hoped to work on the mask and costume over the 4 day thanksgiving weekend :/
shopping, house cleaning, assist with cooking followed by more house cleaning and a blocked kitchen sink the whole holiday have left me with only a few hours to work on the build over the weekend, but using sheet styrene to build a pep file have been going well.
zip kicker + superglue makes for some interesting results
it's taking time, but this is plastic this time around and will be backed with fiberglass afterwards.
much stronger than cardboard and lighter than bondo.
Lookin good so far! You're making this look easy enough for me to do, and I hate working in plastic.
Wow Kommissar! This build is looking great!
The plastic looks like it will work perfectly.
Can you tell me where you got the sheet styrene?
I am looking forward to seeing this project finished!
(btw: This is Hugh from the 405th)
sheet styrene is also known as plasticard in some moddeling circles.
i got a sheet the size of a queen bed for about $30 at a local plastics factory and i've yet to run out.. i'm getting close though, it's only taken me about 2 years!
