cool, someone is building my files ;)

good job so far, its a bit of a learning curve with foam, each new part you build will be cleaner than the previous one. theres really not a lot you can do to clean up a foam piece, it will be a little flattened out with the sealing and painting, tho ;)

something you could try, is skinning it with foamies, that way you get one uniform surface. i have never really tried it, but ive seen it been done, and it can work on a imperfect piece ;)

thanks man i'm suprised no one has made this full suit yet!! yeah well my ultimate goal is to make a cold cast plastimetal suit but to do that i need molds so first i'm building this foam one, then a paper fiberglass one then molding off the fiberglass suit and finally casting the full thing! when its all finished i hope to have a suit as close as humanly possible to the extremis suit with fully operational GUI lights motors and the like! its gonna be tough and very expensive but soooo worth it!!

Looking good. I like all the blueprint style scribbling on the foam :cool

I notice you are using very thick foam, which wont help much with the tidyness of your edges. You have to be very accurate with your angle cutting and really concentrate on getting a sharp edge while gluing.

Good luck with the rest of the build, you have made a great start!

God i know i realised after the first cut that it was waaay to thick but its hard to get good supplies in ireland =C

hopefully i'll be getting a thermocutter tomorrow which should greatly increase my smooth look cause frankly the teeny blunt craft knife i have at the moment is doing my head in =P

ehhh those arent blue prints :unsure i actually screwed up the scaling for my thigh! it was cause of an akward hip disc but i really shoulda seen it!! anyway i just flipped the foam and started again! sadly however the blue ink is now all over my hands so i look like a smurf =P

ANyway thanks again for the feed back! =D

Durn it, I was going to start on this armor tonight because no one else had done it, :darnkids at least not that I could find, and because I love the look of it. Guess you beat me to it. It's looking good so far. I'll have to keep an eye on your thread here so I can try to tip toe around any pitfalls you may find during the process. :popcorn

After looking over all the pdos my one concern is the helmet, looks to possibly be a tight fit.

well i made a lot of other armor files, that just wait to be built, and noone has done them before ;)

You're not using pink insulation foam board are you? That's... probably not the best medium to be using for something with complex, compound curves.

Be carefull with the legs. Thighs and shins are modeled to fit a videogame character -not an human being- and are about 10 or 15% too long. If you rescale them by decreasing the ratio, they won't be wide enough anymore to be weared. Or if so, you might look like a wading bird. For my own I had to extract back the obj files and edit them under Blender (or anything else) in order to restore some human proportions. These moded legs are not included in my package, I'll upload them and post a link if you wish.
For the same reasons of its game's character's origin, the helmet HAVE to be scaled. Don't built it on the heels with the same scale factor than the rest of the parts. It actualy has the size of a head itself, not the size of a helmet.

Pieces destined to the trash...

-EDIT-
a quick comparison with a well proportioned mark4 leg

for quite the same ankle circumference, we have the Extremis knee's articulation at the half level of the mk4 thigh. Rescaling the shin piece to shorten it will also tighten the ankle too much to wear it, moreover with thick foam.

--reEDIT--
here are the moded files :
02_shin.pdo
03b_tigh-top.pdo
03a_tigh.pdo
extr2 final leg.obj

dude you are a hero!! i noticed that they were waaaaay to thin or way to long so was gonna jus add foam to the back to extend their length but this looks way easier! cheers!!

no i'm using play floor foam boards, still not great but i wanna wear parts while i play airsoft so it has to be strong as hell!! =D

Your gonna let the suit ruined? 10mm foam is safe, but the surface is going to be ruined tho.
Just hope no "lucky" hit at the open joints.

Enlarge the eyes, use airsoft google glass inside. You need better vision.

With the suit, you'll be an easy target.

well actually the suit is for a specific game called Iron man basically i'm dropped into the arena in the suit then two teams are set up to play certain games, while they fight for objectives defend positions and the like its my job to wander around killing them with m203 grenade launchers!! and the suit should be fine cause i'm giving it a fairly thic coating of wood resin which'll make it solid as a rock! so my visibility really doesnt matter as i cant die!

What a joyful game it would be !!!!!
Should do the flame thrower :lol
Or mount WM machine gun :love

My 4mm high density foam test helmet at no armor (resin/fiber) didn't survive on paintball test (that's so obvious). Haven't done any test after.
