Also, those ears are most defintely 90 degress from the top of his mouth. The top of the ear may be slanted back at 15 degrees but the bottom of the ear stays on a 90 degree path with the top of the mouth.
    Sure about that?

Sorry, I've just had eye surgery yesterday so it's a little hard for me to focus (lots of double vision and blurriness right now lol)- is that one of your builds or is that the real deal? It's getting hard to tell now a days - you've got some pretty great replicas out there.

As far as I was concerned, I was talking mostly about the red version because it seems to be the most wildly popular, specially among search results on google.

I'm not sure if its exactly 90 degrees, its quite possible it's under, but according to my reference pics its consistently 90. I've never seen that picture posted before. I couldn't find many reference pics on the immortal version.

    All best

It's the real deal, hah. But thanks - your's looks excellent. Mine do not have the fabric seams.

The mau5heads do vary quite a bit, but I can't recall seeing any with ears perpendicular to the top lip. Of course, some of the helmets angle back and others angle forward... The only one I don't remember seeing side profile shots off is the white helmet.

I have been using this site along with Robert Darwins page and I would like to thank you all, esp. Giz. I actually used the project as a unit project in 3D design class. I was basing my head off of the blue one he wears. Well anyway I thought I would share a pic of my creation, more pics to come. PS. I barely used any of the dimensions Joel gave out, they didn't seem to look right.

Yea, see there's a perfect example where the ears look 90 degrees to the top of the mouth. Mind you, the famous red mau5head was the original and I'm sure his recent ones have different dimensions.

    Hello all!

I'm brand new to the site and found my way here after (surprise surprise) googling Deadmau5 heads. I'm planning on making my friend a mini mau5 head for his Christmas after finding some crafting stuff from last year in a box. I have a good idea what I'm doing and what I need to do after reading this thread in sheer AWE at all the excellent work on the mau5 heads you guys have been doing, but there's something which has me rather stumped. I was originally going to use the large polystyrene ball for the head, and use some of the large clear acrylic ball for the mouth part...... but the acrylic is just slightly too small to use as a mouth insert ... SO... instead I'm going to use the large acrylic and small acrylic balls to do the head. I have a dremel but I'm not sure what to use to cut straight lines in acrylic, I don't think the dremel will be up to that tbh.

would I need to go pick up a crafting hack saw of some kind?

Sorry for jibbering on, I'm just mega excited about this because I've not crafted in a while. Any advice welcomed

The spinning cutting will wants to cut straight - you'd be surprised how straight your cuts can be. Of course, you have to have a steady hand.

    Thanks Giz.

I got so far as cutting patterns for the fabric covering, I managed to do the ears by myself but the covering for the head had me completely stumped...... five hours later I fell asleep with a headache. So I've decided to give a 'propper' mini-head another try at another time, but for the sake of getting this Christmas present done I'm going to papiermache a head instead as it's only going to be a wall decoration and not for practical use.

Might post a picture of the end results...... when I eventually get there :/

Hey, one question. This is the first time I've ordered these 4.5 inch eyes... did you guys paint these on the inside and leave the outside clear or just paint the outside of it?

You'll want to paint the inside. This allows you to keep the outside shiny and even buffable.

All great pics, thanks for posting. I actually just purchased a Mouse Head from this site. I chatted with one of the guys behind this site (they have a chat feature), and it does seem that this isn't an exact replica of a Deadmau5 head, but I think it looks pretty damn cool.

The heads on that website are pretty terrible for what they're charging. I think you got ripped off

Can anyone offer some advice on how to mount the eyes? I've seen a ton of different ways, but I'm thinking about having LEDs in the eyes and can't figure out the appropriate way to mount the eyes and still be able to attach LEDS.

    Thanks

Hi, I have bought the 14inch globe and 6inch globe eyes and the leds for it.
Right now I am looking to buy stretch velvet for my fabric, how many metres will I need?
