Daryl Dixon Vest

My first prop / costume I'm making. Love the look of this jacket, think it looks really cool so having a go at making it. The vest is unbranded but identical to the one he wears. I drew the wings free hand and stained the white cloth in tea to give it that aged look. I would of used denim but couldn't get hold of any. Not got them attached though as I wasn't sure how best to do it? Any ideas from people who've made these before?
Thanks,
Ben

I used leather adhesive on mine and it seems to be holding up. you could try fabric/liquid stitch and set it with indirect heat from a iron using a towel to protect the decal and leather.

Had another go at it and i'm much happier with the results. I did the wings on bleached white denim like they should be and made the wing shape and feathers look better. Not sure whether to weather them or not though?

10173711_692890007436809_7565711975286061380_n.jpgStill working on the crossbow. I like the colour of the grey but not the black since it's too flat of a colour so tomorrows job is to go back and repaint that as well as make the arrow holder and foot thing.

Thanks, Worked on it a little more today. Ended up painting it a few times because I wasn't happy with the colour. Still need to add the logos, foot thing and the arrow holder. It all pulls back properly and if I'd made a trigger system for it I expect it would fire!

Woah, impressive bow! And I was thinking of just repainting a Nerf Crossfire - inspiring work! Are you planning on making the knife, too?

Made the knife today. It's not 100% accurate but the best I could so with what I had. Blade is metal and a little sharp and the handle is made of wood. His knife handle is different to this but I couldn't replicate the pattern on it so I just made it black like some of the ones I've seen him use while filming. The scabbard is just something I threw togeather out of some fake leather seat and staples but it does the job I guess!

I think it's also probably a little thick the handle but I can grip it well so I guess it's ok. Next job is a poncho! Any ideas as to how to make one? Or what it's made of? I was thinking something along the lines of a thick(ish) burlap material and then paint on the pattern using stencils

There's not much to show really :/ All I did was cut the shape out of 3X 1/2 inch sheets of plywood, stick them together and then shape them with a sanding machine. That will give you the basic shape then for the bow part it's just some metal strips screwed on with a loop made at the ends for a bolt and some large washers to go through to make the bearing part. Paint it, put some string on and that's pretty much it!
