    Jul 6, 2012 - Costume help #1

Hey RPF! I was hoping that you guys could give me some advice on a costume I am working on. I recently got a TDK cowl from Coofunkcurly, (it is AWESOME, definitely buy from him if you ever get the chance), and I was hoping for some help with the neck piece. I need to buy a balaclava and somehow attach the TDK neck piece to it. So, I was hoping for some ideas on how to do so, and any suggestions on what balaclava to use. Also, I have two TDK utility belts from Rubies Costumes, and I need to combine them into one. Thanks for reading, and remember, THE FIRE RISES.

you want to get a head sock. its made from polyester, or expensively known as UnderArmor. not sure what you are making the neck out of. but something flexible and light would be 1/8 inch black craft foam sheets.

    hope that helps

There's a few different ways for the neck piece to attach. You could put industrial strength velcro on it and enclose it around your neck, or do something similar with snaps, magnets, etc. The screen used version was actually glued to the mesh hood and a zipper was installed into the back of the hood/neck piece.
Personally, I would just go with velcro on the back. It'd be easier to get off, and you won't have to worry about gluing it to your balaclava.

Thanks guys! So if I was to use superglue to attach the velcro to the neck piece and balaclava/head sock, what kind of glue should I use?

I wouldn't glue it directly to your balaclava. (Here's a place to buy a hood : Tactical SWAT Hood - Balaclava Hood - Law Enforcement - Military Duty )
I did a quick paint drawing (Don't laugh ) of the neck piece to show how it would attach with velcro. The red parts represent where the velcro would be attached. It would enclose around your neck and attach in the back, like if you were putting a necklace on.

Good idea, but do you think the velcro will hold?

I would think so. As long as you go with industrial strength, not the knock-off brands. You could even try rare earth magnets. Those things are really strong.
