Ew. :o I've always hated that new armor design. More sci-fi than superhero. They were obviously influenced by anime and Jim Lee X-Men/space suit type stuff. I'm glad I stopped reading Iron Man back when ( BECAUSE) John Romita Junior was butchering the look.
The best suits, IMO, were the red-and-silver "Centurion Armor" and red-and-gold armor that followed, drawn by Bob Layton during the original (and ONLY) "Armor Wars".
The new suit just doesn't say "superhero". More like "I, Robot".![]()
I really hope they don't go in that direction all.
I am an old fart who loves Tony Starks Original Suit....I am hoping they will stay more on line with the suit from the 70's....

The style was very interesting, but I feel they used too much of the gray area, instead of keping it all gold or red. The "darkness" is killing the look.

Sorry. Looks more like Mighty Morphing Power Rangers than Iron Man to me. Stick with the darned comic look.
The Adi Granov design is the best (for me, of course), because finally it's something where a man can move! A "scales" armor looks way better than a 3/4 parts armor with a "metal cloth" feel for the soft parts (c'mon, you know that in the comics they deform the "hard" parts to make the look of a very mobile armor... You know that...)
The Granov armor looks at least "possible" in the real world (but this 3d armor isn't the Granov one... LOL)
This armor isn't too bad, but it's still too "rough" and untrue to the character... It could be an alternative version... Maybe...![]()
While I will ALWAYS prefer the 70's-80's red and yellow armor, I think for that for today's superhero movie concepts, this is pretty good. I'm pretty sure what they do pick will not be as close to the comics as this is.
You just KNOW something will happen.

I looked up Adi's version since I wasn't quite sure which one it was...
Not too bad. I could deal with this design for more than the one you pointed to juno...
Still, nothing beats this version....

I like the yellow and red too. But the thing that bothers me the most is ironman's face. I wish they would just keep at least that the same.

I stopped at about the same time. The only guy that could ever draw him right was Bob Layton. Incredible artist. Him and Romita Jr were a great team. They were supposed to hook back up but it didn't happen. Romita changed his style anyway. It would have been terrible. I like the classic red and gold armor. The new stuff's too bulky looking.

My renewed interest in Iron Man was helped along very nicely by Adi's fine work. Just imagine Adi's Iron Man with a CICULAR chest centerpiece rather than the newer triangular one! That one small change would probably serve as a good link to the past for some of the fans of the old suit. A sort of retro-wink to the fans who have watched the suit change time and time again. I'm no good at photoshop or anything or else i would have tries it on the picture above... * hint - hint!*
Sorry don't remember what it looked like! D'oh!
Is this close?

Pity since I loved the old Iron Man. Come on Marvel! Toss in some girls, guns and gizmos and give Tony some fun again! Tony was great with Madame Mask and Bethany Cabe and all of the others.
Give me the Armor and some great baddies for Iron Man to fight!!!
Man, I've loved Iron Man for more years than I care to count. I don't see what you guys are complaining about. Granov is the best thing to happen to Iron Man in a long time IMHO. Too scifi? Iron Man is nothing BUT scifi.
Besides, they've changed the armor so many times, it's not nearly as iconic as Batman or Superman so even as a serious Iron Man fan, I think it'd be crazy to tie the director's hands and say it's gotta look like Bob Layton's version or it's crap. One of the things I always liked about Iron Man was that he had this armory of suits for different uses. I actually always kinda liked the black stealth armor myself...
I love the Layton stuff and Demon in a Bottle is by far the best Iron Man story ever but I think Favreau is doing the right thing in working with Granov in coming up with a look that'll work best in live action.
I think any suit they do will look like metal onscreen. It doesn't have to be Layton's. He was the first to make him look metal rather than some costume made of spandex or the like. It's hard to make it look metal in a comic book. Of course it's easier now because of the way the color them. It's much more realistic. The Granov one isn't as bad as some of the others. I could probably deal with that.
BTW, that black armor was pretty cool.

For anyone who keeps comparing these IM suit designs to Power Rangers, I will have you know a ranger suit consist of a spandex jumpsuit, leather accesories and a fiberglass helmet. There is nothing power ranger-ish about these designs. Leave the rangers alone.
IMHO, these IM design look too cartoony, almost too video game-ish. To me, IM needs to be chromed plated, but that would be a headache with the camera and crew reflecting in the armor, ala C3PO. Besides of the futuristic armor look, it is also supposed to imply MAN, not astro Boy. To be honest, it almost looks like a sentinel from the X-men. I agree; a lot of the classic look should be kept. Less is more.
The design for the movie will be based of Adi Granov's work. Granov's version is actuallyvery close to the version we all know and love. Just a little cooler I think.
You can see the stealth armor here and some of the other variations over the years here but it doesn't look like it's been updated with some of the more recent variations.
