very cool! Congrats man, it's coming along very well.

Quilt batting. If you look at some of the photos the abs are soft and flex a little bit. Foam pads don't have enough flex.
For the shoulder pads I used multiple layer to allow for the for the rounding off of the pad.
For the should tops I am using foam mats to make the edges look hard. I will post pics of that this weekend. Hopefully I can get nearly full dress this weekend.
Great headway Sam...excited to see the finish line.
In the home stretch....
Starting with this belt I found at Target... I am cutting the ends off to use for the loops on the belt and the ladder locks.
Next up ... Pauldrons... originally I got the pattern wrong... these are the only pics I have though. The curve at the bottom should be flipped so the shoulder pad curves out instead of in!
As we pinned the pad to it we realized I had it backwards and had to take it all back apart... the pads underneath are there to add some rigidity and to make the pauldron armor feel and act more lifelike. They will be handstiched to the underside of the pauldron.
Finally I worked on the shield harness... I am pleased with the results even though it's a kludge and not quite movie accurate. I am really happy with the way it feels too!
I started to weather the straps as you can see at the bottom of one of these... but then I thought the front is still in the unweathered state so I should probably leave these straps in a new unweathered state as well. After I get my first scratch or ding... then I will worry about weathering the whole thing harness and all.
Just need to attach the star and the shield will be finished. Trying to decide how to hold it first... short side on arm or long side?
In the home stretch now... my mom decided to make a bunch of the gray strapping last night so today we can just assemble everything. I would guess by end of day today 11Mar2012 I should be in full dress.
Can't wait to see it all put together!
Hey, I love your harness design! Very original, yet inspired by the movie. Great job!
More problems on Sunday... The sewing machine we are using is having problems sewing through the layers upon layers of material making it slow going. I now believe I will finish on Tuesday. Nothing like cutting it close to my Friday morning deadline.
Couple of pics...
Update:
Here are all parts
Helmet : 100%
Pants : 100%
White Sleeves and Collar as a Dickie: 100%
Abs : 100%
Blue Sleeveless shirt : 100%
Shoulder Pauldrons : 100%

OverShoulder Straps: 50%
Red Belts : 90%
Back Strap : 95%
Shield : 100%
Gloves : 100% but would like another tweak
So I have to make the leather strapping for the shoulders, I am scrambling to find better hardware, the belt I mentioned earlier sucks it in every way ... I HATE the look of it. I need to attach the shoulders to the overshoulder straps and add the little details to those straps. Still need to attach the stars. I have to weather everything!
I think I have 2-4 hours of work left... fingers crossed for no more mishaps or miscalculations.
This is great build! It is turning out really nice. Can't wait for a full dress photo!
The weathering is key on this one. It just never looks good clean. Plus the dirt really shows off the detail in the padding and stiching.
I would love to see a full dress clean and then a weathered one to show how much it helps!
Keep up the good work!
amazing work man!! cant wait to see it all put together.
Thanks everyone.. I think I will get a full dress pic clean tomorrow night.. I agree weathering will make this pop. I am really stressing over these last details.. I already know I am going to have to use carabiners for the triangles. At some point I will update the hardware but I need to wear this Saturday. So they will do for now.
Big day tomorrow.
well as I typed that I got bummed about the triangles... so I went to my workbench and got medieval!
Nothing a little brute force can't fix! That last pic has the two stacked to check consistency. Not to bad for 30 minutes of anger frustration management.
That's the way to do it!
I am so impressed at all the different types of skills you have had to master to do this, its truly stunning.
One more quick update before con time.
I failed to take a full dress picture last night after we finished, it just slipped my mind. Here is the last pic I took before donning the belt and stars and accessories.

Things left to do today... Red Belt - Make the brass tips. Leather Belt - Add Grommets in the back. Weather the hell out of the suit!
This was a fun fun build... wish I had another week, but overall I am very pleased with how well I was about to represent the original costume. Will there be tweaks ... yes lots! I am looking forward to better triangle rings. Not happy with the scale of mine. I look forward to working metal buckle as well. My gauntlets are going to need a little tweaking and who knows what happens after I wear it for a little while.
For those waiting on fabric info I am going to try and get by there today but I have to admit I am hurting for time. I have a lot to do before tomorrow morning and I am not taking the day off from work. I addition to this costume I will be wearing my Fallout Vault Dweller, Sons of Anarchy Jax, and Goose from Top Gun as part of our ensemble. Each one of those need a few minor things fixed as well before tomorrow. There are not enough hours in the day!
This is my son wearing the same Fallout costume...could not find the pic of me with it?!

Wow, man, even just what you showed for the completed fabric parts looks awesome! Very well done. Can't wait to hear more about the fabric info too.
Wow, even with that quick update you made I'm already quite speechless. Very inspiring build!![]()
And there she goes... knocked way out of the park! Great job man... but... what are you going to do with the beard? That is the pressing question! :P
