    Jul 22, 2012 - Cap Shield #1

Hey ya'll. I'm looking into doing a cap shield. I modelled one in Blender, based off 'The Avengers' and 'The First Avenger', it's 30inches by four deep. Does this sound accurate? I've been looking into it and it seems right... but the shield I pep'd, unfolded and assembled is HUUUGE but I know I'm not as big as Chris Evans.

If this is accurate I think I'll keep it for a display prop and make a smaller 26inch one for cosplay... Otherwise I have no use for it and just wasted something like 27 pieces of paper.

I have modeled this for pep as well.

I think 30 inches is about accurate, but the curvature should be around 3 inches. I would still finish it off for display if you have already assembled it.

The accurate measurements range from 25" and 26"

Hey thanks guys for replying, you both gave a different answer however lol could you provide evidence please? I would really like to have a screen accurate sized prop, curvature and diameter and all. Thanks again!

The Profiles In History auction in April had several of the screen used shields available, and everything in the auction was listed in the catalog, with dimensions

Okay, thanks, 25inches in diameter. What about the depth (curvature)?

They don't have the depth listed, but I think 3.5-3.75" should be pretty close

Correct answer to which? The height of the sheild? Kev go it right 3.5" and a 25-26" would both be correct.

Thanks Clinton. I knew I had seen the 3.5" somewhere, just couldn't remember where.

Yes that's what I meant, sorry for not clarifying. So 25inches diameter and 3.5inches high. Thank you all!

I got a measurement of depth of 3 - 3.25 inches. This also varied though. The one he wore on his back was less curved. The one modeled in 3D for the CG shield throws was more. Most props uses were around 3 to 3.25"

Okay it seems pretty clear now that different uses in the films required different sizes. The one I modelled is precisely 25" in diameter x 3.5" depth. I feel like no matter what size I make it there will be a variation, so I can probably get away with displaying this without feeling like I could have done it better.

it actually depends on what source you're using to get your dimensions. most of the comics say the shield is 30" in diameter and has as much as a 5" dome to it. The shield i'm making is going to be 30" in diameter and 3" in dome though
