    May 19, 2012 - Buzz Lightyear suit making #1

I am proud to share with the forum the suit that I built for my nephews birthday party.
I was not so lucky at the start but I think it came out pretty close to the suit used in the Toy Story musical. I did not built the jetpack, but I will do soon.

Hi, I want to thank you all for your compliments and support.
The suit is built with foam and covered with different type of fabrics.
Mostly one type called "velour", and it is strechable.
Since I do not look like Buzz Lightyear, and it is not in my plans to cut my hair
and beard (for the moment, hehe!!), I have made a Buzz full head to make it
more cartoony for my nephew and friends.
Here is a picture to show the head and some parts of the suit.
I think that I can improve the head a little more. Let's see if i have time.

    Thank you Mollins and fire10,
This is an amazing forum to get inspired and hopefully inspire others into
    creating props and costumes.
There are tons of priceless talent in here, really.
Fire10, my nephew totally loved it. You should see his face when he saw
Buzz making a special (and spacial!!) appearance.
All his buddies want Buzz to come to their birthdays now, hehe, the problem is
that I'm not an entertainer at all.

    Thanks jedifyfe,
I am sure that it can be improved. As for what some people here have
stated, I think there are people here that have made better works with the replica suit. Especiallly those using fiber glass, moldeable vynil, ad similar materials.
I saw a picture that someone posted in another Buzz thread sometime ago from
the Disney Cruise Toy Story Musical. (see picture)

And seeing that foam was a good solution for the suit, and that it would be very lightweight, made me go for it.
I'm good drawing, modeling, cutting and gluing, but I had to pay someone to sew on. I'm happy with the result, and seeing the success, especiallly among the children and of course many parents, hehe, now I would like to try a Woody and Jesse maybe.
Thanks again for the support. It's nice to hear good words from people who see many works, and replicas all the time.

Awesome suit! make sure when you make the wings that you rig them to open when you push the button, that would be so sick!

    Thanks Darkmantis,
I am not sure if I have the skills to do waht you suggested.
I sure have seen a guy who made that with Buzz.
And also somethig similar with angel wings that opened and closed
as he moved his arms. That one was spectacular.
I'm uploading a picture from my "great appearance" as a surprise
guest at my nephews b'day party.
Of course, he is the one holding the Thor hammer right in front of
    his face.

Thank you all for your comments. I have started a new Buzz Lightyear.
The new one will follow the Buzz toy doll proportions. This is kind of
difficult because its proportions are not really human, with the longer arms and wider shoulders.
Here is a picture of the modeled suit in foam. It looks kind of simple but it's triky
    and time consuming.
    Hope people like it.

Very cool. I did mine as a 'battle-worn' buzz, but I also love the cartoon Buzz.

Wear it to a con, you will barely be able to move with all the pictures being taken of you.

MasterRoshi, I appreciate your post, thanks.
Hey Hamsterstyle, It's an honor that you
comment on my suit. Your thread "Buzz Lightyear
by Hamsterstyle" was one of the many threads that
I followed and inspired me to try to create one myself.
I love the concept of your suit.

I love the work you've done with these suits, your very talented. Do you use pep files for this or is it all free hand?

Hello Arrow105, I do not use peparuka files to mold the parts.
I use the toy dolls and pictures to cut the foam and modeling.
Here is a picture of the finished suit and the original Buzz toy.
I am more satisfied with this new one. I think it looks closer to
    Buzz from the movies.
I'm finishing Woody and Jesse this week.

    Loving the Buzz costume Replicant.
Having a bit of trouble with mine. I'm struggling with what to do about the head and feet. I'm not sure I want a full face/head mask or have the ability or materials to make a comfortable one. As for footwear I'm struggling to see passed a pair of painted wellies!!
