Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka; Pep and 3D print (Pic Heavy)

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Sneak peak. All I have left to finish peping out is the rest of the foot. Definitely not an easy process, but its looking fantastic

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Okay so another half update

I got about 70% of the foot done. Its an extremely complex part of the Jaeger. But now its actually starting to look like foot

1398144269851.2.jpg
1398144288078.4.jpg

Ive already got the top armor of the foot going. Should be done very soon
1398144279264.3.jpg

After the foot is done, I'll move back to the arm and start the bicep and hand. I want to save the shoulder "saucer" parts because I want to get a good looking size of them in relation to the chest. Stay tuned for that

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

BIG UPDATE

I finally got the right foot pep'd out. Definitely the hardest part of the jaeger I've built so far. It wasn't easy, but the results are worth it
1398403777978.10.jpg
1398403751282.9.jpg

And the completion of the foot marks the completion of peping the right leg. So I couldn't resist taking lots of pics of it all
1398403628285.8.jpg

And of course, I tried it all on.

In case you were wondering, the foot does have a HUGE arch in it. I just didnt put all my weight on it to avoid ruining the pep. I plan to solve that problem after I harden it. Still many more problems to solve after hardening. How to make the foot comfy to wear, how to make it strong, the shutters on the back of the knee, the actual knee etc. Its going to be a nightmare. But so what?

1398404074239.12.jpg

God I am loving this project so much. Next up, the rest of the arm since Ive only done the right sting blades. I plan on doing center body sections like the cod, abs and chest last. Big thumbs up for all the support

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

looks so freaking great!
how were the issues with pepping the foot?
has it caused much trouble? did you have to cut back/away pieces or does it kindof just fit together?

I'm getting more sanding and bogging done this weekend so hopefully i'll get closer and closer to finishing caboose!

Overall, its not an easy pep and there were quite a few alignment issues with the pieces, but it looks fantastic. Namely the part under the top of the foot and the top of the foot where those circular details are that there were alignment issues. Nothing a little trim cant fix. It did fit together, but because of how it is, its hard to fit it together when worn. The foot kind if angles inward from the ground up, so the opening gets narrow by the end of the top before the top of the foot. Only things I would change are making it easier to wear by widening it a bit, especially on the top armor where that large gear is on the back of the ankle. I tore it a bit when trying it on. Thats about it. Great work on it. I'm so happy with how the leg came out. I'm going to print out the bicep of the right arm now. Going to finish up the arm Thanks again

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

So here is a small update. I started fiberglassing the forearm as of right now, but I may have messed it up because the resin wont cure. Its been sticky for hours. If all else fails, I can just pep it again. It was an easy pep. Anyway, So I moved on to the hand today and I've got the plates and the "brass knuckles" done

1398833708508.1.jpg
1398833717147.2.jpg
1398833743435.3.jpg
1398833748462.4.jpg
1398833864155.5.jpg
1398833902950.7.jpg

The hand did come with palm pieces, but mostly to save time and the hassle, I'm skipping that. My plan is to permanently attach the pieces to gloves and voila! My plan with the color scheme is to have all the yellow coloring on the Jaeger be either a light yellow or mat gold, I'm not really sure yet. As for the knuckles, I was thinking Have them be reflective gold, and the tops of them lightly sanded to give it a worn look like its been punching tons of Kaiju. Got loads of ideas in store. Stick around :)

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Sorry for lack of updates. Been busy with my job and getting some files together. Ive been working on the rest of the arm after finishing the hand. I started the bicep a few days ago, but I had to scrap that due to some problems in the file. Don't worry,Glitch and I seem to have solved the problems, because I just finished peping it earlier today.

1399353495112.2.jpg
1399353503205.3.jpg
1399353511395.4.jpg

You may have noticed...the bicep is big. I think I overscaled it. I wanted it to extend over my actual shoulders to make it look like I have wider shoulders than I actually have so it would look closer to the movie. I know, getting an exact replica of the movie Jaeger is impossible because of proportion constraints.
1399353536957.5.jpg
1399353547383.6.jpg

I tried it on for a bit here. This is where I knew it was too big. The opening ends about an inch past my elbow joint.
1399353636064.7.jpg
1399353650893.8.jpg

Because it came out so big, I think its making the forearm look all around way smaller. Here it is with the shield like part where the sting blades are hidden. The bicep makes it look tiny
1399353710365.9.jpg

But part of me thinks its not that bad and that I can work with it.

After I finished the bicep, I moved on to the first shoulder. Those big, almost saucer like shoulders. I scaled this to the bicep as well, so yea its looking HUGE so far
1399353849691.10.jpg

Its almost as big as my chest. And its not even done
1399353862790.11.jpg
1399353884537.12.jpg

Once I finish the shoulder, I'm going to try getting a pic of the whole entire arm on, just to see how it looks. As much as I dont want to, Im afraid Im going to have to retry the shoulder and bicep. Then there is the problem later on of making it work with the chest. Wish me luck. I'll need it

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Nice dude!
glad to see the bicep's all working now :p
I actually didnt think of making the shoulders bigger to account for striker's massively inhuman proportions around the chest area. great idea!
still, I think you might need to do a little bit of scaling down on the bicep haha, but I guess you'll see soon!

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Good to hear from you again Glitch. Your assumption was definitely correct.

UPDATE
I finished the bicep and shoulder today and..well...Ill get to that in a second

But to start this on a good note, I started the first wave of applying fiberglass resin to some parts. The forearm base just finished and its great
1399438756542.1.jpg
1399438762048.2.jpg
1399438771834.3.jpg

And it still fits great
1399438790384.4.jpg

Elbow joint still needs some work because its stuck at a 90 degree angle
1399438823679.6.jpg

Thats the good news, now here is the bad news. I finished the shoulder today, and...well..this is the biggest set back I've had on this project so far. The pep looks good, but its WAY too big. It blows out the proportions of the rest of the pieces I built
1399438341540.1.jpg
1399438348718.2.jpg
1399438367789.3.jpg

As you can see, the bicep makes the whole forearm look incredibly small
1399438472046.4.jpg
1399438472046.4.jpg
1399438503859.5.jpg
1399438512770.6.jpg

There is no way I can make this part look proportional to what Ive already got while still making it work with the chest in the near future...so...discarded. Into the bin, try again.
1399438598271.7.jpg

I'll take a second crack at the bicep and shoulder tomorrow. Since my original plan of enlarging the size of the shoulders to make it closer to the movie wont work, I'm just going to make it work to my actual, human proportions. Eh, well, you cant have success without some failure. Like the movie "Meet the Robinsons" taught me, "You just focused on the bad stuff when all you had to do was... let go of the past and keep moving forward."

By the way, I've decided to start trying out the center body parts before moving onto the left arm and leg. I'll message you if anything needs adjusting for that

Oooh yep that bicep was a bit huge, it still looks good though :p
Please do let me know if anything needs adjusting for the inhuman proportions!

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

New update everyone!

Sorry for the lack of updates. Senior year is winding down and I've got SO MUCH work. But I still make time to continue with this project.

I started the mid section of the Jaeger. I just finished the cod piece today, and I have to say, it looks and wears great.
1399956205412.5.jpg
1399956225058.6.jpg

Getting it on was hard because my shorts got in the way, but I still got it.

1399956103050.2.jpg

I really wish I had more pics but sadly I dont. I also got the abs going after completing this piece. And I did some work on the foot to make it wearable. I wont have more pics until tomorrow, so stick around. Then I'll need to figure out how to mount the abs since they're separate pieces. Oh well, I'll figure it out later

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Glad to see the cod is all good, did you get the new file i sent you?
