Black Widow Gun Belt, Iron Man 2

I just lucked into some sports mesh fabric with a mesh face of midnight blue and a backing of black nylon/poly lycra. It's double thickness so has that same heavy look.

I will upload photos of it in case anyone is interested. It was a whopping $NZ1/m as it is in a clearance store. I have five metres for myself (enough for two suits with care) but there was a roll of about 30. If it somehow sells I'm happy to part with mine. I bought it on a whim.

Even with posting from here it is probably going to be a great alternative to custom rubber printing ;)

I'm interested for sure ! Count me in !

This is a macro setting photo I took in the shop:

I'll pin the fabric around my mannequin tomorrow morning though to show what it looks like when stretched to shape.

The colour is quite close for the blue but the black backing doesn't show as black here (on the left).

Currently working on a crazy bodysuit for myself so got distracted from posting here today.

ooh that does look promising!
good luck on that complex bodysuit ;D

Just been asked for some more info so I'll post photos of the fabric relaxed and stretched with a tape measure too :)

And will get photos outside and on my camera for better blue vs vlack definition ;)

And thanks :) I have spammed all the fora I can think of so may as well spam here too ;)

I apologise for the awful photos but this camera really doesn't like anything other than full midday sun it seems... The close up photo a few posts up is closer to the real colour, this is very very very not the colour but it shows the texture and stretch better.
The real blue is a deep cool toned navy.

You can see how the texture looks under close flash though (click the pics to see the proper size) and you can see the difference between lining and outer (in the first pic the pining has turned to the front and looks like a black collar).

I fly really early in the am but will try and check this forum while I'm away. I may be able to beg someone to buy the fabric while I'm away and will still try for a shot or two tonight with a better camera ;)

Sorry for the long delay :) I have been in Oz for week sightseeing and conning ;) I'm catching up on correspondence now and my camera files have been dumped to make room for new photos. I am about to get tape measure and fabric and camera in one place while the sun is still up.

I'm still very interested in this tissu, please keep me informed in a "group run" or something.

Good news :) My friend checked and there is still fabric left :) I just checked my own lot and I do only have 3m. It's supposed to $NZ5/m too I think, it was a bit rushed that day so I'm not sure quite how my charge happened ;)

Anyway here are the new photos:

Best views of the colour are the second and and last 2 photos. But the rest show how it can look under daylight on some cameras which can also be useful ;)
I checked for the stretch. Taking 4" I can stretch the horizontal to 6.5" but the pattern gets a bit too distorted and I'd suggest 4" to 5" is a good supportive but not distorted stretch.
The vertical makes it from 4" to 5" but again I'd suggest not going to that full stretch especially as there will be horizontal stretch which will affect the vertical.

I'm not sure if they will do any sort of shipping so I'll email them anyway and ask. There was at least 20m on the roll when I was there and apparently there is a slightly warmer toned blue in the store now as well.

Thanks for posting these. So to be clear, is the mesh already attached to the black spandex?

Yep, it is knitted in :) so it is all one fabric but two layers.
Login to a private Photobucket.com album you look at the five " mark and work your way up it is the back of the fabric then the cut edge and then the top of the fabric, at the 4" mark it is two layers of fabric so ignore that end ;)
The back looks more like an interlock than a regular nylon lycra though- which probably explains why the vertical stretch is minimal- it's more for ease than anything else- will be good for the curved seat seam I hope.
As I said good alternative for some of us but not really the real fabric :)

I am happy to cut a sample off mine and post it tomorrow (it's Sunday here so the shops are closed) as I need to post some letters anyway. PM me if you like, I'm not sure how long it will take to get over to the US but it should only be a few days.

I did email and will hopefully hear back tomorrow :)

"We have never shipped internationally before but if you were to work out
what quantities you needed and where it was going we could work out if this
is going to be possible. "

So if anyone wants the fabric it might be good to get it to a central spot over there in the northern hemisphere? I do not have the ability to wrangle a roll of fabric at this time so it would probably be easiest to see if they can.

Offer to send a sample is still there, I have an envelope and I have a sample and I am going to my gp today or tomorrow which is near a post office ;)

The stuff I ended up using came from an ebay auction. An ebay search for "double knit lycra" pulls up the fabric I used (though the photo only shows the grey side) and as of this writing there is still some available.

Is fabricsupplier the name of the seller you bought your fabric from on ebay? I just want to make sure I found the same fabric as you. Your costume looks amazing by the way.

Hey I know someone posted this link a few pages back for the PPK airsoft holster and it was out of stock. I emailed the company and bought one yesterday so if anyone's still interested they're available! :D
Here's the link again: Cobra Airsoft

If I did it over again, I'd use the same fabric, but dip it blue just to give it a slight blue tint. Also make sure you reinforce your seams. Every time she wears this I end up fixing split seams.

I sometimes work with a supplier who has done some custom fabrics for me in the past. Most recently they aided me in replicating the same fabric that was invented for the production of Batman Begins. So I asked them if they could do the BW fabric and sent them the trading card sample to work from. They nailed it. I'll try and post up pics of their sample tomorrow.

I am not sure it would be worthwhile to do a run considering the small group who would be interested but I will get more info anyway.
