it's made of rubber.robert made it in one night only for our appearance the next day.

for our next appearance, we modified it a bit, dry-brushed a bit of silver on it so it would have a bit of texture. we are still planning to re-color it into steel gray. but it still works perfect.

i have no gun. it's gun-ban here until june due to the upcoming elections. amf.

As well, in the art of book, there's a pic of the comic styled belt (round pieces with a black widow hour glass in the center) that was decided not to be used.
Sounds similar to what they did for the black Spidey suit in SM3.

Well, the costume designer, Mary Zophres does say she got the idea from people that worked on other Supershero shows...

got my costume card...CONFIRMED, it looks like a rubber screen print, navy over black. Stark's race suit is similar, royal over black.

Re: Black Widow Gun Belt, Iron Man 2

Thanks David. Anything special about the base fabric? Just a heavy spandex?

I could likely get this recreated but I doubt it would be cost effective enough to get off the ground.

Excellent work on the sourcing. I'm not sure how you would even go about ordering the special screenprinting. Is the printing rubber? Simple ink? Is it really raised, or just the thickness of the paint? What sort of place could do something like that?

Re: Black Widow Gun Belt, Iron Man 2

I can't tell the thickness of the fabric, as it's glues to the card and I'm not ready to tear into it. it does look matte. the printing looks to be 1/64 inches thick or less and is a rubber ink

I'm so ripping mine open. Gonna check with my buddy who is a silk screener to see if his equipment would be capable. Otherwise you need a more industrial application which is big money and huge minimums. Or maybe we get lucky and someone like Magnoli tackles it.

All,

I think a few people following this thread like myself will surely join if we can combine funds to get the fabric re-created? Just thought it good that people with links to the right places know that there is interest.

Kind regards, DJ

I know the fabric type has been determined already but I found this when I was browsing, I wondered what people thought? I don't know a lot about fabric so thought I would defer to you guys

looks too blue. the real stuff is navy almost blue-black. also, it's a woven, even though it says it's a stretch, there is no lycra content mentioned. any stretching would be mechanical from the weave. it would have to be tailored well to make a body suit.

"composition:92%T 8%SP"
sp=spandex=lycra?

If that's the closest fabric one could find, in order to achieve the same visual effect, wouldn't it be possible to then screen the negative of the mesh over top? (which to me would seem that finding a sacrificial mesh to mask the spray sounds easier than etching the mesh itself into a screen print.)

color aside...I don't think that material will have enough (if any) stretch to it. being a twill weave, it's more like the material used on a Fett jumpsuit.
if all one is looking for is appearance in photos, I guess it would work. in person it'd look like goose bumps

I would totally get in on a fabric run. From what I am hearing, they used black jumbo spandex (football weight) and screened the mesh pattern onto it in dark blue

Re: Black Widow Gun Belt, Iron Man 2

I'd probably get in on a fabric run too, assuming the price didn't get "too high" per yard.

Also, has anyone found her shoes yet? Were they customs? Mods? Imaginary?

They look like they could either be really easy to find (But probably of a limited run) or nearly impossible to find. Any leads?

Now onto the next question: I know I used to have a pattern for a catsuit like this one (Back in my Spider-Man days), but have since lost it. Anyone have a *free* pattern for a similar female catsuit? I just need something that's close enough, and drafting patterns was never my strong suit.

Thanks,

-Nick

If the fabric run could be done, I'd definitely be interested in going in on it too.

NickFox - The boots are almost certainly custom, as there are two distinct pairs with identical uppers, one with flat soles and one with wedge.

There's some discussion of them on my WIP thread on League of Heroes, though I haven't reached any solid conclusions yet. I'm going to be going with the flats myself, because I've got five inches on ScarJo, and don't need to make that any more obvious in photos with other people!

Right now I'm leaning toward cutting up a jazz shoe and grafting it onto a neoprene shaft with faux leather for the straps and top section of the shaft.

Re: Black Widow Gun Belt, Iron Man 2

Just looking around at options I discovered that Spoonflower (everyone's favorite fabric printer) does not offer spandex. This place, however, does. http://www.fabricondemand.com/

Now it would be digitally printed, so there would be no actual texture to it (don't know if there actually is texture, but it looks textured), but you could get the look.

And no minimum order. Someone just needs to design a repeatable pattern to print.

Oh... And as far as patterns go, Kwik-Sew has the best commercial catsuit patterns.

Re: Black Widow Gun Belt, Iron Man 2

The costume I did I wasn't going for 100% screen accurate, but I think it still came out pretty good.

For the belt I just used dark grey vinyl.

The bodysuit fabric I found was a double-knit lycra which has the right amount of stretch and has the subtle texture of the original. The underlayer of this fabric is gray, but if it were dyed a dark navy, the highlights of navy might show through. The fabric swatch doesn't look anything like the costume stills, and even in digital it read as "textured black" on the big screen. So I'm not fussed about it.

I'm so glad that's been confirmed, I thought I was going crazy when she walked into the building and was wearing wedges cause I'd seen the promo of her flat boots

That is amazing! Where did you buy the lycra from? I'm not going for 100% screen accurate either (though I'm going to have to learn how to make a catsuit, the most sewing I've ever done is not a lot )

The stuff I ended up using came from an ebay auction. An ebay search for "double knit lycra" pulls up the fabric I used (though the photo only shows the grey side) and as of this writing there is still some available.

I have been seeing a lot of reference art and as well as some stills. It looks like for Scarlet Jo, the majority of her boots were wedges. The stunt woman's boots were flats and in at least one publicity shot, ScarJo wore the flats, so I think that you are safe with either.

The new Hot Toys Black Widow shows them as wedges

Great! Thanks.
Can you tell us what you used for the rest of the costume? (Piping on the suit, wristbands etc.)
