Back to the Future II: Marty's Jacket (the holy grail of BTTF props)

WOW Doc. That looks almost exact! Any chance you will do more?

Thanks for the compliments.

I will definitely make a couple more, but when i have time... I can't believe how many hours it took to assemble this jacket... Im hoping that was just because it was the first one...lol... But from start to finish every step of the process was very time consuming... It was fun watching it come together though... Ill post more pics with the liner in it later.

im so happy you were able to finish your project. I remember following this thread and all your progress, it really really paid off. it is the only screen accurate replica i have ever seen.

to think ive been seriously thinking of getting the other replica made in hong kong. I hope you get some time in the near future to do some more jackets for sale, that is a thing of beauty!

It's been a long wait for someone to finally do this costume piece justice, but we can all rest now knowing its been done - truly amazing work, I am honestly blown away.
Don't forget to put me on your 'run' list first!(y)thumbsup

Hi DocBrown88,

Your jacket will go nicely with my McFlys & you're going to make alot of BTTF fans here very happy :)

Oh my god it turned out amazing!! Nice job! I would definitely be interested in buying one, too! You should see if you can get it into a manufacturer to produce them for you!

I'm hoping the general price range will be between $500 - $700, that seems fair for the amount of work and materials put into it I think. As long as it is under a grand (that doesnt mean $995!) but within those price ranges. Looks like I need to apply for a credit card....

If there will be a run of these jackets, I am sure I will not be able to afford it for quite sometime.

But I am so glad to know that someone finally made a replica which is screen accurate.

Kudos to DocBrown88 for not only making this awesome jacket, but also for offering to auction the prototype at tonight's We're Going Back event for Team Fox.

:thumbsup

Guys, listen, I have seen first hand some of what it takes to make these, its absolutely incredible what it takes to make just one! the giant mold for the ribbed belt section is amazing in it self.

If Ed is able to make a few more they'll be a great deal at any price.

Keep up the great work Ed! :thumbsup

I really appreciate the compliments everyone... thanks!

However, I hate to dissapoint you guys... I really dont think it will hit that $500-$700 mark... Every single part of this jacket is completely made by hand as you guys all know, all the rubber material is hand made, cast, hand cut, hand glued, hand painted, hand sewn... Materials alone are several hundred dollars. Hopefully ill be able to come up with a way to make the jackets more efficiently but i dont even know how that is possible. If you start substituting cost for quality and accuracy; you end up with something that looks like this...

dang and I was seriously considering buying that not so good replica just to wear when i go out. Your jacket is far better, but the quality is a lot of better and I could envision the cost being very expensive, but again that's the kind of jacket you wouldn't want to wear out in public for fear it would damage. its a thing of beauty it is.

In that case, if you are able to make them according to customers own jacket size, I would pay over a grand. If it's custom made to fit me, then price is not an issue.

Yeah, i would say my jacket is more for the occasional costume party, but not something you would want to wear because its cold out. I was shooting to replicate the original prop mostly for display and also have something i could throw on for fun once in a while for BTTF events or car shows... If you are looking for something durable and wearable; then the batmj jacket would be the way to go.

The overall size of the jacket can me adjusted to fit torso length, shoulder width and chest size, but the bellows are only the one size... I would say the jacket is comparable to a dickies Large work jacket... Im 6'1" and 190lbs and it fits me...

Is that videobobs jacket?!? :lol

Wow, thats what I call exclusive...

But seriously, you should try to lower the price a little bit, that some people can afford this; except Uncle Scrooge... :lol

The price is heavy... No chance for me... :cry But after all, I would wear it, too, like the shoes... So, better a collector gets it for his display than me for waring it... :love
