    Aug 4, 2012 - Asics Dirt Dogs 3 Spidey Shoes #1

I am going to buy a pair of the Asics Dirt Dogs for my spidey suit but I remember reading another thread about them and wanted some advice first.

    1. Should I buy my actual size or should I go smaller due to removing most of the shoe lining. I am a UK 9.

    2. What is the best way to attach the shoes to the suit.

    3. Should I paint them before or after attaching them to the suit.

    Any help would be great....

I think it's better to go with the size bellow your normal one as removing all the inner parts of the shoe gives back the size.

don't quote me on it though as im not sure of the thickness of the shoes inner parts.

Somewhere abouts I had written how I attached them, ah yes here it is:

I trimmed the top part of the shoe off entirely. To give the lycra boot some 'structure' I inserted a foam neoprene wetsuit sock then used a strong hold epoxy to attach the asics. The wetsuit sock did a nice job of giving that 'boot look' I've seen in ref pics.
    Hope that makes sense.
As for size I got an 11 (US). I'm actually a 10.5 but I thought I'd play it safe. As it turns out I wish I'd got a 10.5 or maybe even a 10. Once you've stripped the shoe down and removed the huge amount of foam padding in the heel (this padding has to be removed to make it flush with the lycra) there was a good inch and a half gap between the toe end of the lycra and the toe of the shoe. Had to stretch it quite a bit to make them meet. Again I hope I'm making sense here.
As Rebz said deffinately go for your actual size or better still one size down.

And I'm sure you'd find it better painting it beforehand. I did mine after sticking them to the suit, it was fine but a bit awkward.

I read the reviews of the non-costume shoe buyers saying the shoe was too small, so I figured I'd buy my normal size and it'd even out. Nope, too big. I'd recommend sizing down for a costume.

That depends on if you are going to use a neoprene sock inside the lycra or not.
you can use the neoprene sock as an inside boot for the shoe to keep it's form and add back a little thickness.

Just start cutting man. Don't worry they won't fall apart or anything.
Once you've cut off the excess top part cut/scoop out the padding in the heel.
After that you'll still have parts of the asics logo attached to the silver parts. Unpick the stitching on these parts then cut them off with a Stanley knife where they join with the soul. Whether you remove the inner soul or not is up to you.

Im about to buy a pair or dirt dogs but im soooo confussed, basically I wear a UK 10 for width, but they are always too long for me, Id say im more of an 8 in length. Id say my size 10 flip flops are a clear 25mm too long (these are the easyist to actually see the length).
The dogs are getting hard to find now but I have a choice of a US 11 or a US 9 from a shop ive found, my question as most of the sides is removed do you feel I could get away with the US 9???? Is length more important than width?
    Thanks guys

I am a straight size 11, and i got a 10. i had to buy neoprene socks to just about fill out the sole. so get a size and a half down imo. Right now im painting mine off the suit (yellow version). i used a red and blue sharpie on the bottom and sides where theres a felt-ish texture. And i found out my red puff paint works well on the front and back spots that needed to be red. Thats all the info i can givce for now, i also need to now what brand and type of glue is best.

I saw you suggest Epoxy Redtogusa, did you just put it on the inside of the sole, wear the suit, and let your foot hold it still for a bit?
