Aug 10, 2012 - Any UD Dark Knight suit owners in the Toronto area? #1

This a shot in the dark, but I'm just wondering if there's anyone in the Toronto area who owns a UD replicas Dark Knight motorcycle suit who is roughly my size (6'2", 190 pounds fit). I'm interested in ordering one of these, but really want to try one one before I put down the money for it and then wait months before finding out if it actually fit. I've read some posts here about how even though people took proper measurements, the suit ended up not fitting quite right when they eventually got it. If you don't mind meeting up and letting me try on your threads for a few minutes, lunch is on me for your trouble.

Considering that this is a Motorcycle Suit and NOT a costume, size and fit of these goods is custom to OUR size chart...and there are rules to follow with sizing to ensure a proper fit.
I dont expect nor do I encourage anyone to order without contacting us FIRST with their body measurements...failure to do so may in fact lead to something not fitting as it should...so if you take your body measurements based on the descriptions in my size chart, and call me...I can then tell you the sizes you'll need to order.

It's my job to make sure these goods fit...but if someone does not contact me first then it's hard to ensure proper fit of these items.

Yup, I know. But I've seen some people post here who did call you and talked about sizing, but things didn't end up fitting quite right. You saw those posts, right?

Unfortunately he doesn't have a store and is not able to meet up in person. It's no sweat, I'm sure he's quite busy and just doesn't have the time for it. Just wondered if anyone in the area would be able to help out and maybe grab lunch and do some Bat chat while we were at it. It's funny, there's two camps; the camp that has no problem ordering clothing online without trying it on first, and the camp that needs to actually physically wear it before they say, "Ok, that feels right. Let's do it." And there really isn't any convincing the other side if you've got your mind made up one way or another.

Depends on what UD has in their showroom. David has been very clear in the past that they don't carry much inventory since their production is all demand based, so try giving him a call first.

As for getting measurements wrong, my experience has been pretty good, the suit fits me great though we had some miscommunication on my belt sizing, which David has since resolved. For your build, the suit will fit you fine, though you will have some extra room around the waist area. I'm 190 lbs athletic and 5'11 w/o shoes, not terribly far off from your build, and I have absolutely zero issues with the fit.

When you call David, he'll size you based on the maximum allowable dimensions of that size. For example, if you have 22" wide shoulders, 38" chest, and 30" waist, he'll size you L or XL because a size M jacket will not accommodate your wide shoulders, so from a fit standpoint you'll have some extra room in the chest and waist area. This is mostly for jacket and pants, the boots and gloves are more forgiving. I'm quite sure there've been sizes delivered that didn't fit the customer in the past, just make sure you take the measurements as instructed on the website and don't rely on any garment or shoe sizing from your neighborhood apparel stores, and you should be fine.

I'm not sure what your referencing exactly but I will say this, if you take the measurements properly - and I don't have a crystal ball to assert this, but I can walk you through it - then by speaking with me I can make sure you get the right sizes.
You're totally free to do as you wish, but why go against the grain? I've created the goods, know them better than anyone, understand how they fit...and understand how 2 people with the same body measurements can end up with different sized garments.

Like I said, this is my job.

Ok, thanks for the detailed info. Thing is though, even if you get the measurements perfect, sometimes you just try something on and say "This doesn't feel good." It can all be mathematically perfect and should in theory fit properly, but sometimes there's just something that's off and no amount of reassuring that the measurements are correct and that it's the best possible fit is going to fix that. It's like trying on a number of different jeans that are your proper waist an inseam size. There's going to be one that fits better on you than all the others, and that one isn't necessarily going to be the one that fits everyone else perfectly too. Like I said, two camps on the whole "try before you buy" clothing thing, and neither side is going to be able to make the other side understand their thinking, no matter how much they try (case in point, how many people who say "just go by the measurements" read the pants example above and went, "Oh yeah...he's right, that's true!"). No harm in asking, which is why I did.

Yep, we're on the same page. Fit and comfort are not one and the same. Provided that your body is measured properly and measurements communicated correctly, the suit will fit you. But as you said, depending on your body type or personal preferences, it may not be comfortable. But hey, it's either a motorcycle suit or a costume, neither of those are supposed to be particularly comfortable. One thing I will say is that removing the body armor from the jacket and pants makes a WORLD of a difference in comfort and heat management. When I first put it on with the armor inserts, it wasn't all that comfy, and when I removed them, I could wear this suit around the house all day and not break a sweat.

Well that's some handy info to know. I guess that's a nice option then, to be able to take some of the armor out in some places that are tight and leave it in for the places that fight right. Does taking the armor out make it look looser though? The armor definitely bulks it up and makes the wearer look build like a tank (tumbler? )

^ Removing the armor inserts don't change the look of the suit at all, the jacket is built rigid. If anything, the suit looks more like the movie version w/o the armor inserts because it slims down, particularly around the shoulders. How bulky it looks with the armor also depends on your build; a skinny guy can probably get away with the armor inserts and not look so bulky. The knees on the pants look a bit baggy w/o the kneepad inserts but it's not that noticeable and still looks fine overall.

Btw, the jacket only has armor inserts on the shoulders, elbow, and spine. The pants only have them on the knees. The whole suit is not covered with armor along every inch.

Forgot to add that removing the windbreaker under the jacket will also make it much more comfortable. It's only useful for riders, just adds heat discomfort for cosplayers.

Ah, another bonus. Cool to know about the windbreaker. Lots of cool heat/cooling options that other straight-up movie accurate costumes don't have available. It gets pretty cold here so it's nice to know if I'd ever have to wear the suit outside for a while, freezing won't be an issue.

Thanks for the details on the removable armor pieces. Did you get their belt also? I was thinking it looks a little too "foamy" or leathery, but there aren't that many options out there. Most of them are rubber and split fairly easily. At least this one looks like it can take a lot of wear and tear, even though it doesn't look metal like the one in the movie.

Is the armor removal straightforward? Does it come with instructions?
