Mods, please feel free to move or delete this if you see fit.
But since so many members have expressed a desire for a new Superhero-Based Costuming forum, I'm pleased to announce the creation of The SCF here:
www.thesuperherocostumingforum.yuku.com
To tell you more about the SCF, I've reposted the "Welcome" thread on The SCF below:
Welcome to The SCF- The Superhero Costuming Forum!
Brian and I have created this site to serve the Superhero(and Supervillain
) Costuming Community. This board's purpose is to help inspire, educate, learn from, encourage and support our fellow costumers. And we're here to serve you and your needs.
This board is (obviously) still a work in progress. Any comments or suggestions you have will be listened and responded to- and greatly appreciated and respected. We want this forum to be as User-Friendly as possible. You can post your comments, criticisms and suggestions here.
But you may be wondering: "There are so many Forums on the Internet already, so why should I come here? What's in it for ME?"
1) Get in on the Ground Floor. This is your opportunity to help build something (that we hope will be great) from the ground up. We'd like to you to one day look back, and say "I had a hand in that."
2) A Clean Slate. We've got a Clean Slate here- easy to navigate, view and use, and free of clutter.
3) We feel that YOU are the administrators of The SCF, not us. We truly value everyone's input, and promise to be responsive to your needs and concerns- and to respond to any questions, comments or suggestions you may have as soon as we can.
4) There are some important changes that have been made to this board as compared to others:
**NEW** As you noticed when you applied for membership, some of the content of this board may not be "family-friendly." That is the sole reason why The SCF has been set up to be "By Application Only" (like the WPE and other boards). We simply wouldn't want some 8 year-old kid typing in "Superheroes" in Google and accessing the site.
This forum is intended to be for Adults, who can then feel free to express themselves like adults. In accordance, the profanity filter has been turned OFF. Like the Wolfpack Elite, we expect that everyone can act like adults here.
Please don't abuse the $%#&ing privilege.![]()
And for the record to everyone, this board isn't meant to be "Elitist" in any way, shape or form- We hate that BS. We won't be "by invite-only" or "special-picking" members- everyone is welcome to apply here- newbies, amateurs and professionals. Everyone has to start somewhere, and we're help to help and encourage each other. We're all nerds after all, and high-school was a looong time ago.
Bottom Line: The Greater your Freedom of Expression, the Greater your Ability to Express Yourself- the Better. **EDIT: Let me add this quickly: before it could become an issue, I'll just add that nudity is still against YUKU policyThere's already plenty of forums for that
)**
As you've probably already seen, there are many familiar forums, but there are some new ones as well:
The Superhero Costuming Forum- this will be our "General Forum." Other Forums of the SCF include:
**NEW** SCF International- dedicated to our Non-U.S. members- Laban Boldero is the Moderator of this forum.
**NEW** Superheroines Only- dedicated soley to our female members- where they can feel safe and secure discussing whatever they want to discuss. This Forum will only be visible to our Ladies and ElizabethAmber will be the Moderator of this forum.
**NEW** Convention Pictures Archive- Everyone loves Con Pics. But if you're like me, searching through Flickr for Costumes at a Con you like gets tedious. So here's a Special Forum where our favorite Con Pics can stay for easy viewing.
As well as Conventions and Group Projects , Volunteer and Charity Events and Costuming Links And Tutorials.
More Forums lnclude:
**NEW** Inside the Costumer's Studio where regular threads will be appearing for accomplished members to answer questions and discuss their life, work and hobbies.
**NEW** The Costume Gallery where there are dedicated threads for costumes of each character. If you've ever made a costume, you probably know how frustrating it can be trying to find examples of that costume as a reference for making your own. In the Costume Gallery, Each Character will have their own Thread, and Multiple Costumes by Multiple Members representing that Character may be included in each Character's Thread.
Items for Sale or Trade Please see this thread before Posting. This Forum includes a Subforum for Vendor Inquiries, Kudos and Complaints.
And finally The Off-Topic Cafe. With Special Subforums for TV & Movies, Games, Fan Art, Comics & Book Reviews, and Toys & Statues.
Other aspects of the board include:
**NEW** You may delete your own posts. Made a double post by accident? Feel free to delete it yourself. Having 2nd thoughts about a post? (I've had mine) You don't have to erase everything and leave the post up, feel free to delete it yourself. Again, we expect that everyone can act like adults here so please don't abuse the privilege, and please remember to think first, and post second.
**NEW** Standard Emoticons come on the bottom of each Reply Box. You don't have to open up the Smiley Button on the top of the Reply Box anymore, but if you do, you'll find over 40 Additional Emoticons to choose from. Reply to a post and check 'em out. And please let us know if you've got any more you'd like to use.
**NEW** Posticons appear at the top of each Reply Box. You can add these as an option and they'll appear to the left of your thread. A few examples of the posticons are,
, and
.
**NEW** Ignore User's Posts. Don't like someone? Every post they make grates on your nerves? First of all, please feel free to contact us or a moderator. In the meantime, feel free to use the drop-down "Interact" button on the left of that user's post and choose "Ignore User's Posts." If at any time you'd like to see what they've written on a post, you can always choose "Show" at the bottom of their post; it'll remain blank otherwise.
**NEW** Quotes are Highligted. After you Quote someone's post, it'll appear as Yellow in your Reply. It'll be much easier to distinguish someone else's thoughts from your own.
**NEW** Polls are Enabled! You can select either "New Topic" or "New Poll" at the top of each forum. Want a vote on which emblem to use or costume to make? Start a Poll.
**NEW** Report Posts to Admin and Mods. Feel like something is innappropriate, even for The SCF? You don't have to go out of your way to PM anymore- you can simply Report a Post by clicking on the "Report Post" button under the same "Interact" menu.
**NEW** More Topics and More Replies Per Page. We're allowing more topics and replies per forum and thread. This way, posts won't move so quickly off to the next page, and you won't have to read through so many pages of a thread. If you have a slow internet connection.......upgrade.
**NEW** Add a Tag Line to your Profile. If you look at my profile, you'll see I'm "Chairman" (since Hawkman is the Chairman of the JSA). If you'd like to add a tag line to your profile, simply add a post to the thread in the main costuming forum.
**NEW** Community Calendar Enabled. On the bottom of the main directory page, you'll see The SCF Calendar. We've already added DragonCon, SDCC and Free Comic Book Day to the Calendar, and it is open for everyone to add and promote their events. Each event will appear at the bottom of the main directory page starting 14 days before it occurs.
**NEW** Names appear under The Costume Chat. If you see people in the chat room, you won't just see the number of people in the chat room anymore- you'll actually be able to see who is in there. And if you see either of us in there, feel free to stop in and ask us a question or make a suggestion.
Everyone, we're very open for change. This is all new; if something doesn't work we've got an open mind. Please let us know.
Like with any new forum, we expect things will probably be slow-going at first. But we're asking you to give this site a chance, and keep checking back. And feel free to post freely- nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd. Help build The SCF from the ground up, and if you like it, tell a friend. Or a Group of Friends.
A few other notes:
Constructive Criticism will highly encouraged, Destructive Criticism will not be. Appreciation is what we all come here for, but we're not here to blow smoke up each other's asses either. Tough Love, when appropriate, should be a hallmark of the SCF- we're here to help each other get better after all. To sum up: All Tough= Bad, All Love=Bad, Tough Love=Good. If you're not open to Constructive Feedback on something, don't post it.
We believe in Freedom of Speech, and it will be protected here. But No Favorites will be played. We simply ask that everyone Respect each other, even if at times you disagree.
Because what is an online community after all? Is it a site, or is it really the members who make the community what it is? We believe it is YOU.
And a community is only as good as how well it serves the needs of it's membership. And since the Internet is a Big Place, we appreciate you spending your time here- and we hope to serve you well.
Thank You.
Allen Hansard & Brian Parsely
Co- Administrators of the SCF
