    Jun 25, 2012 - Amazing Spider Man the Game-Utility Belt #1

    Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum but not really new to the prop making thing. The new project I'm going to start now is the "Amazing Spider Man Videogame" utility belt. Since it's different from the original belt from the comics and cartoon I'm going to start inspecting the game design once I get the game to see if there are any additional details aside from those shown in current game pics.
    Reference Pics:
    Spoiler:

At first I thought about modifying an old "Batman Begins" belt but that idea was thrown out the window quickly as it is way too small. Now I'm going to have to opt for making it completely from scratch. Since it will be from scratch I have decided to also make it practical. The boxes will be made from corrugated plastic and I will attempt to make them wide, and sturdy enough, to act as pockets for a wallet and cell phone/music device. I'll also add a modified taplight in the buckle to imitate the original spidey signal in the comic's belt. (Something I'm not sure the game belt has or at least it hasn't been revealed) The purpose would be to have a both good looking and practical prop that can be added to the spidey costume. For the belt itself I would have to find a blue leather belt or paint one probably. Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. This would be my first "replica" and project submitted here to the RPF. Let's see if it goes my way

Updates and pics will be coming as soon as I get the materials!

    Thank you,
    -Equinox

Thanks! Right now I'm going to see if I can order the corrugated plastic or if I think of any other material that can substitute it. I have only made a pattern for the pieces I will have to cut out and tamper a bit with the taplight to make it thinner. (Ideas for the material to make the boxes is extremely appreciated)

Now onto the reveals I found when I saw the belt in the game:
In the game there is no mention of the Spidey Signal light, though I'll still add it in my version, but I did see something interesting. The reload animation shows Spiderman pushing his arms straight down into the belt and it's not like he reaches in, takes a cartridge and loads it. Apparently this new version of the belt acts sort of like a dispenser. I'll update later with pics of the blue belt and my patterns for the boxes and buckle.

Hey guys; haven't updated because I was practicing with puff paint and working on other stuff but I wanted to show you my template for the belt. Here it is:
    Spoiler:

It's pretty much explained there, the dotted lines are for folding reference. Also, the holes in the front buckle are for inserting the flaps via a cardboard insert. (That way, by making it in pieces, I don't need to cut a single extremely large belt buckle.) Since the spidey signal isn't on the belt I'm going to opt for changing the LEDs on the taplight to red ones and leaving it there. Also the first version I'm going to make it out of cardboard and maybe just reinforcing the cardboard with paper mache. (A cheaper alternative) If it works, however, I may try to make a plastic version for a more sturdy replica. Thanks for your interest

Sooo yeah, haven't posted updates on this build in a long time since I had practically no feedback. But anyways to avoid making a new thread I'm bringing this back up with an update on the belt buckle!

    Spoiler:

I decided against the taplight since it would be too bulky and problematic. Maybe for the second version.
Still needs a paintjob but hey at least I made it! Also I'm going to make the boxes for the belt like this user did in his Robin utility belt: Reference Here
It's ingenious and helps me have less work. I would just have to paint them red and add the design.

No problem and actually, thank you! Your idea for the boxes was way better than what I had!

    -Update-

So I have the belt buckle officially done with just the need of the paintjob. I reinforced the inside of the cardboard with hot glue so it's actually pretty sturdy. Also I used puff paint to trace the circle design present in the actual game belt buckle.

    Spoiler:

And also just to show exactly how much cardboard went into this project here is the image when I was finished. Took the cardboard from the top of an Adidas shoe box.

    Spoiler:

That's all I have for now. Thank you to those that have shown interest in this build.

Haven't worked much on this lately because of school and such. However, I have a pic of the finished paintjob of the buckle and one of the flaps:
    image.jpg
The other flap has to be re-painted since the colors mixed while I was spray painting. That's all for now. I'll probably be making a new thread once I recieve my DGP print! (Excited! )

Excited to see this in reality, I was going to throw a game belt on my suit but opted out for a more comic book rendition... I will be watching this thread to see how it goes!!
