300 Movie Costume reference pics and props

So I figure I'll start this off. I've been hitting the weights like a maniac for a while now and changed my eating habits so I'm in the mood to show off the results. Now if I can just get a costume put together, it would make it that much more fun.

I'm posting whatever pics I can find to help everyone out who wants to build their own costume. I'd love to buy from the pros here, but my wallet is being pulled in other directions for other costumes right now and I figure it's time I start building my own stuff.

Here's what I have so far:







It looks like the Leonidas' shoulder strap goes down his left latissumus dorsi and is that the end of another strap poking out?

I know these guys are in top shape, but check out the "make-up" on the abs. Those cannot be shadow lines.

Anybody have other images they can share? Arturo, what did you have in mind, if you don't mind sharing?

Yes,These guys were in top shape. The one dumb argument I keep hearing is that they made all the ab lines with make up. That's crap!!!! Did they have body make up on???? Yes, of course. Those that have ever been in any type of plays, musicals, etc. You have to have make up on. If you did not, you would wash out when the stage lights were on and look very pale.

Is the 501st Legion considered cosplay?

Sometimes I'd like to call it coswork with the amount of stress some things give me to get it all canon! But all in all, yeah, I'd say 501st is technically a form of cosplay.

Well...gonna start work on my helmet soon. I probably won't have this costume finished for some time. Gotta get my Zorro done first, but I look forward to building it. I'll probably put the horse hair crest on it too. I'm no Leonidas, but the helmet can be a great display prop anyway.

ShatirLavan, how far are you on yours? You got pics, bud? Sorry I missed you at C4. I think I remember seeing you and Jen sitting on some steps where the buses were dropping off peeps, but I didn't want to intrude.

For all intensive purposes, mine is done. At least as far as I'm going to get on it for the time being. I will probably put another coat of resin on top of the bucket, but that's about it. I'll try to get pics up by Sunday. I'm heading out in an hour or so to go trooping, so I'll see about taking some tonight when I get home. But I'll give a brief explanation of all my parts.

Helmet: scratchbuilt from a toy fireman's helmet, sintra for the faceplate and crestwalls, then covered with fibreglass and resin. Horsehair bought from a violin bowmaker (since I didn't wanna get kicked in the face by a horse fro trying to cut its tail off).

Cape: Red fabric from Fabricland. Not quite fullsized since they didn't have the right width, but close enough for me. Clasp made from a belt buckle blank, carved leather, and paint. Leather straps sewn directly to cape for correct placement.

Greaves and bracers: Leather coated with fibreglass resin, then painted.

Sparties V2: Version 1 was horribly inaccurate since I had very little reference to go by besides memory. V2, I used the action figure for reference, going by the old saying, "Measure 6 times, cut maybe." I think I got pretty close to accurate, though some parts are off a bit.

Sword: Wood, bought online for $20. I painted it myself

Scabbard: Made myself to fit my wooden sword.

Sandals: My regular leather sandals. Who looks at sandals anyway?

I also made a pouch to keep my keys, wallet, etc. Non canon, but very useful.

But yeah, I'll have pics up tomorrow I think. And no worries about C4. There will be another time.

Nice template! Thank you! As for horse hair, I found a website that sells horse hair brim brushes with long bristles and also another site that sells horse hair tassels. One tassel is ten inches long, hopefully long enough for the tail end of the crest. I'll post links tonight. I'm on my way to troop a children's fest event.

Here we go. Full Spartan costume (minus my sandals) including my first ab makeup test. Still some work to do on that, but I'll get it. I also have pasty white legs, but I'll take care of that too.

Pretty slick! What materials did you use for the armor and crest? I'm a long way from even starting. Not sure if I'm looking forward to shaving more than my chest, lol. Then there's the fact that my legs and feet rarely if ever see the sun!

The armour is leather covered with fibreglass resin and paint. The helmet is based on a toy fireman's helmet, with a sintra faceplate and crest trough. It was then coated with fibreglass, bondo, and more resin. The crest is real horse hair.

GREAT job for a scratch-built costume!!!

Now lift some more weights and man...get rid off that pink earring
