Kid's costume: Hicks from Aliens (updated with Pulse Rifle)

This is my son's costume and the "Build thread" that starts the process of submitting it for the "Kids" catagory of the Halloween contest.

I am a lifelong Aliens fan and have been looking forward to the day when I can include my family in my obsession. This year I made costumes for my wife and son and am pretty satisfied with how everything turned out.

The hardest part of this build was finding miniature versions of everything! I wanted to stay as accurate as possible despite everything being miniaturized. Also knowing he would outgrow this before he gets to wear it twice was tough, but I got over it! It turned out exactly how I wanted so I can't complain.

These are the "progress" photos

Like my own build, I used a lot of flower pots, bowls and trash cans for the curved hard parts. Especially for the little guy, keeping things lightweight and semi-flixible was key.

And 'proof shot' to finalize entry
(perhaps right before bed was a bad time to squeeze in a proof shot, but I finally got a real smile after like 9 photos!)

All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the Corps! A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I LOVE the Corps!

Little update on this. Hopefully my son still fits in his armor (they spring up like weeds at this age), but when we have our next event he will have a pulse rifle this time!

The shroud is sloppy as it was made from cardboard and fiberglass, but it is durable (which is important!). I also didnt attach a stock because it was cumbersome for the little guy. His next rifle will be more accurate, but for now this one is pretty fun!

It was build from an old crossman s30 (much like most SPAS12 airsoft spring guns, it was undersized. Which worked out great!) and an ultra cheapo chinese thompson spring airsoft gun that was also appropriately undersized. Whole thing is about 2/3 scale and weighs only 1.6lbs

I disabled all the airsoft function, of course, and gutted most of it to cut weight. It was quite the headache trying to find a balence between accuracy and durability, but the magazine does pop out and the grenade launcher forend moves. The triggers arent connected to anything but they have spring tension and he thinks it is fun .

Not a bad "learner" I think. I hope we can find a reason for him to gear up again soon!
