Thanks Columbo. That's a really good shot it not only shows some great detail on the tie, but on the shirt!

No idea where the tie came from. The blue shirt is a custom but pretty easy to find a good substitute for. It's a basket weave oxford withe the same details as the other Series 6 shirts.
That striped shirt has a diamond/arrowhead pattern woven on it and some details woven into the fabric between the smaller stripes. Kind of incredible since this kind of detail would never ever been seen by anyone unless looking at a photo like this.
Also the tab is attached to the collar pretty far back and only to the underside of the collar which would account for why the collars look much more pulled together than a normal tabbed collar shirt.
This shirt and the checked shirt are going to need to be re-woven if we are ever to get something close to screen accurate. Damn.
I'm going to Steve Ricks for the shirt pictured above (The "Utah" shirt) and waiting to hear back from him.
As for the checkered or "window" shirt, I found a perfect substitute at JC Penny for $8 on clearence:
It appears to have the same color lines (blue) and is the best "close enough" I have seen of it yet...and it was SUPER cheap.
modernboy, do you have any links to blue shirts that you would suggest as a best off the rack alternative??
I don't have any suggestions for off the rack. Mine is custom.
Steve's shirt is a great alternative. I'm just pointing out these new details that I hadn't noticed before.
generaFROSTY I think I have a link for the blue shirt.
No problem, I didn't know details of the shirt were still being looked for. The striped and the check shirts do look to be more expensive kinds of material than would really be necessary what with the texture patterns in the cloth. No idea what they would cost but tailored clothes for the leading man are going to be quality I guess.![]()
Any thoughts on the Abbyshot bowtie? The fabric texture looks good but the color looks too red to me.
Too red for me as well. If a costume tie is mostly going to be seen in big well lit convention halls then IMO the right colour would be more important than the texture. Who will ever look close enough to see the pattern in the cloth and yet the colour will be clear from thirty yards away.
This cap shows even under a very bright light the original tie is nothing like as red as that replica.

That's what I thought. I have a perfectly colored burgundy bowtie but just lacks the texture.
It's ok though - Magnoli is developing one and hopefully it turns out just the way we want it!
On another note...I wonder if the Abbyshot tie can be dyed?
An alternative for the S6 tie from the Topman website

The Abbyshot's actually not too bad in real life. The color is better than it looks in pics, but not perfect. The main problem is that it's slightly undersized.
This looks pretty close - maybe a dye bath for a darker color?
Dickens bow tie - solid deep red grosgrain
This one here has the right fabric texture, but wrong color. Wonder if it can be stripped of its color and re-dyed a deep burgundy??

Silk takes dye very well, so you can easily overdye that grape tie to Burgundy. Don't need to strip it (silk doesn't color remove well), just compensate for the underlying color.
I found a website with that pattern on it here, and it looks a bit darker tooMaroon Ribbed Self Tied Bow Tie - ties shop - company ties
Anyone who likes to keep their costume up to date might be pleased to know that the new Series 7 trailer shows the Doctor continues using the Series 6 wardrobe, at least for the first half of the series. The same tweed jacket and green coat are there, both the blue ties and a red one, plus the blue shirt, the striped shirt and the check shirt. So all that is current for the rest of this year. Christmas and into 2013 might be another story though.![]()
This might solve some of your issues, or at least, ease them a bit. On another note, i made a pattern for the Interlocking I's bowtie on Spoonflower Spoonflower: Print custom fabric on-demand it seems to be accurate, althouugh it should be woven, which isn't an option from Spoonflower.com
I haven't had the design in person, as i plan on buying a woven one when they start being avalible, but here's the repeat for my pattern, just a little fraction of the full pattern.
Can i see some pictures of your bow-ties?
On another note, i found an almost dead-ringer for the Burgundy bow-tie for E-bay.
ISW* Nwt! $164 Clappers Burgundy Cummerbund Bowtie Set | eBay
And for 19 dollars it isn't an out-of-the-world price, luckily enough.
EDIT: And also, you could perhaps, iron out the cummerbund and make a self-tie version of the fabric if you so desired.
That is exactly the bowtie I have. The clappers version is a very good one I must say and I have started on making a self tie version myself with the cumberband.
Oh, well, you know what they say. Great minds think alike![]()
