Hmm, to me it still seems like a very light-weight denim.
Especially from this picture, where you can see a sort of twill-pattern. But you might be right too.

You know what else looks like twill when the image is poorly resized? Everything. Try scaling a picture of David Tennant's space suit down to an uneven number of pixels. Instant gabardine. As has been mentioned before, a tie would never be made out of denim. It would be bulky, it would wrinkle up in a very weird way, it wouldn't stretch properly on the bias, and it wouldn't slide into the knot smoothly. Denim would be right up there with canvas as worst possible material to make a tie out of. Sorry to be so blunt about it, but sometimes it seems like you new kids never go back and actually read all the research we all did during and before the 5th series. All of this and more has been covered, you just have to dig for it.
I guess I have to throw one of these on the end.![]()
I can't say what the material is but if it helps any, these are hi-res shots of the Series 5 blue tie

EDIT TO ADD: posted same time as Risu there, will clarify that these images are not resized at all, every pixel is a real pixel.

It's really unfortunate that there don't seem to be any clear pictures of the S5 outfit. Even the high res ones are grainy. It wasn't until he started wearing the Shetland tweed that we actually started getting clear, crisp pictures of the costume.
Here ya go, this may not be perfect, but it'll be a really great option for the S6 blue bow tie.

I like the third and fourth ones best myself. I might be convinced to buy a yard and sew up a few of them if enough people want them. Probably with fabric option 3, but we can discuss it. I'm not planning a S6 costume myself, but it's a nice tie.
I was going to suggest dupioni. Especially after the twill comment. It would explain the weave lines, which would run diagonally on a dupioni tie. The Dupioni weave is side to side, but ties are cut on the bias, thus making the weave appear diagonal.
Incidentally, this is also a good argument against denim as making a tie out of it would cause the diagonal weave pattern to run either horizontally or vertically.
Hopefully that all made sense to anyone else but me...
Now the next question... Is this tie appear to be a narrow, straight cut tie? Or the more popular exaggerated bow cut? I want to say narrow.
The S6 tie actually does have a horizontal weave, it would have to be cut on the grain, so not traditionally.

Risu,
I was thinking of taking a shot also. Is your design "pre-tied", or "tie your own"? What pattern are you using?
It would be a self-tie, and as far as the pattern goes, a bow tie is way too simple to actually start from a base pattern. I'll just draw one up that matches the shape of the original. I'll use one of my own bow ties as reference for slider placement and bow size, etc.
Oh, and I should also mention that I'm looking for a more accurate fabric than the dupioni. I've found one that was pretty much perfect except for the color and I'm waiting to hear back if it's available in dark blue.
I have a few patterns, but have to decide on the width.
The stuff I'm looking for is similar to raw silk, but woven from a few different colors of thread. I'll message you on facebook.
I was just on moderntailor.com, they have an introductory basic shirt for $19.99, you can get all the bells and whistles (tab collar, angle cuff etc.) that you would need for the "blue" shirt. One of the 3 fabric choices is a blue oxford. Not perfect, but close enough, for those on a budget. Considering that you get all of the design elements,in any size you need, I think that's pretty good! I don't know if it is true, but it says that deal ends tomorrow.
I've got that shirt, and the deal has been extended ALL the time, so don't worry it shouldn't be the LAST moment to get it. It's too shiny when compared to the real shirt though, but it certainly is a cheap option.
Sorry to bump, but looking back through the pages, i noticed something with "red3" (Name and picture courtsey of Columbo's excellent post on page 5).
It looks like the top of the bow-tie is cut, rather than the more usual method of folding or sowing it down. The rough cut of at the top of the bow-tie is quite clearly visible. Just thought i should point it out.
It doesn't look cut to me it just looks worn. I would say that the costume dept aged this tie which is why it appears so floppy.
I've just finished revising the last of the Matt Smith shirt patterns in my Spoonflower store. The colors are now more accurate and all of the print resolutions have been doubled. I'm excited to see what their new printers are capable of. I have received their new color chart and unfortunately the saturation is still a bit lacking, but the wider variety of colors, lack of color shift, and higher resolution should all still result in better prints regardless.

Click on "All" to see the S6 ones that aren't for sale just yet. I have to finish one more piece of artwork before I can order my swatches and make them all available.

It'll just be a couple more days before it's available, but if you can wait a couple more weeks I can post pictures of the swatch I receive and make any necessary tweaks to the design.
Also I should note, the cuffs for the blue PS shirt are temporarily unavailable. For some reason ever since the beginning, that listing has been corrupt or something and it won't allow me to properly edit the design, so I finally just deleted it and created a new one. It'll be available in a couple days as well.
Whats the situation on your bow tie replica?
I'm going to make the prototype bow (no neck strap) tonight if I can stay awake. I'm at the end of a 36 hour marathon crafting session, for lack of a better description.
For those familiar with the new look, which I am planning on doing if I can get a close enough jacket fabric.
How lucky a find is this?
Very close in both color and pattern if not dead on.

Urgh all you lucky/hard working people. How's the shiniesness of the fabric? And would it be possible to dye it to a slightly darker shade of brown, or would the other colors become too dark aswell?
