What does your Workshop/Workspace look like?

All of your workspaces are sooo different to mine lol its Just a bedroom with a set of draws full of tools and stuff with a scratched up table with a lamp and a TV, oh and a PlayStation of course with all the old retro games ;)

I just built a giant new workbench! Ostensibly to be able to make more stuff. Looking forward to getting my various projects rolling, now that I have the space. uploadfromtaptalk1410067216861.jpg

So this thread has been quiet for a while. I am getting ready to completely "renovate" my work spaces. I will be clearing out the Garage and Basement, installing some new electrical to handle some new equipment, and adding two 3D printers and a CNC router table along with some more common equipment and then re-installing everything. I will take some before and after pics and expect to take about a week to ten days all told. In the mean time, SHOW YOUR STUFF!

Wow, all that in only a week or two! lol I am just finishing up a half renovation on my shop and it has taken me almost a month. :facepalm

I will be showing off some pictures soon.

Very nice work bench!

This is an awesome thread, really good seeing all the different set ups. Lots of ideas to take away from this on how I can achieve some sense of order to the chaos that is my workshop.
I'll take the camera into work tomorrow and grab a couple of shots to post. But I warn you that I may well be in the running for the messiest, dirtiest workshop of the lot.

Edit :- here are the pics. My workshop is mainly used for my day job of smithing but its also my workspace for modeling. Anyone think they can beat me on untidyness? Strange thing is I kind of know where everything is even though it looks like chaos.

A little untidy? Yes. I still get goosebumps looking at it, though. I would LOVE to have access to those kinds of tools. Awesome shop!

Thanks Robert,
I've built quite a collection of tools throughout the years. Most of my machines could probably be classed as antiques but I still swear that they don't make them as good as they used to. My lathe was built in 1961 and still runs very true and with very little play in it.

Hello All,

Here is the one I completed a few months ago in our new house. I used mostly old furniture and leftover scraps and hardware from my Home Theatre / Display Room build for the workbench. It is faced in self-healing matt and is about 13' long. The cabinets are RTA's that were painted to match. Now I need to add A/C to the garage so I can actually work out there in the Houston summers!

Agreed! My 6" x 48" belt sander and my 6' tall drill press are both from my wife's grandfather's machine shop, so we're going back 40 - 50 years. Still running great!

I've got 3 separate work areas:

The vac forming / general purpose area:

The painting/bondo/fiberglass area (1500CFM exhaust fan venting outside)

And the garage, which I don't have any good pics of, just individual tools. That's where the lathe, drill press, welding gear, etc... lives

WINGNIT - Oh that is very nice. I like the work bench and cabinets. Its functionality is similar to my own but the aesthetics are different. ;)

Sigh. I wish I'd have room to bring home my Grandapa's lathe after Gram's funeral, but it was too big for my car.
I managed to snag the scroll saw, at least. I think that'll be handy. Maybe someday I'll get a chance to unbox all my stuff into a new work area.

My small Shed is dated before 1800, It is only 10x7 plus the bit where the dryer is(and deep freeze) All the work area and wood shelving is from skips and ex building site waste.
one day will have enough space to put all the bench tools out permanently and not have to store them in shelving. Since these photos were taken the drawers are on the wall there is small unit shelf at the back of my work area oh and its tidier.

Had a real tidy ready for my next biggie
Made some paint shelves from some old bed slats

Put everything that was on the bench into my unused tool box from the garage

this is what i plan to do when i move house, separate everything up.

at the moment everything is just covered in resin and fiberglass dust, no good when you want to paint something or even pack something.
