Dec 8, 2010 - What do painting commissions normally run for 1/6th scale heads? #1

Not sure if this needed to go into the JY or here, so if the mods need to move it, that's cool with me.

Basically, just wondering how much the typical commission for 1/6th scale head painting goes. I have a custom head that I want to paint, but I think it's a little out of my league.

I can't find much about the painting/finishing online, just people offering to sculpt them.

I don't want to insult anyone by offering a price, but at the same time I don't want to get ripped off because I know nothing about this particular area of workmanship.

So.. while I am NOT asking for a commission, I am just asking what they normally run, or tend to run. I figured I can budget out the figure best by getting this information and working from there.

In case anyone is wondering, it's a John Marston head from Red Dead Redemption.

    Thanks for any info!
    Chris

If you want to go Hot Toys quality or above, you can easily expect a price tag about the same as a Hot Toys figure - even for just a head. Though, depending on how lifelike you want it to look there are probably people who are willing to do it for less, just to chalk it up as a learning experience.

I know that a lot of the better painters hang out over on the Sideshow Collectors Forum. I've not seen them bandy about prices that often, but you'd be able to talk with them directly there.

    ^^ what they said!
I'm an amateur and only paint my own stuff lol but there are guys on the Sideshow Collectors Forums that can turn an o.k. sculpt into a work of art.
